Yep. My life is a caffeine-free wasteland of never-ending bland experiences.

Might have one a week if I go out for brekky on a Saturday morning. Very un-bike racer.

Have you checked locally to see what you can get a similar one here for?

Note: I use a Sears Craftsman "Breakover" style torque wrench, and I'm quite happy with it. They can be found on ebay as well, but again, postage would be even higher than the beam type.

I do have a torque wrench but it's 1/2" drive, as most are, and way too big and heavy for assembling bike stuff. The reason I like the one I mentioned is that it's 1/4" drive and much more manageable on smaller fasteners particularly allen bolts and screws. I did an Oz Google for Park Tools and got pretty much nothing of any use. :( This is the first 1/4 drive t/wrench I've been able to source. Unlikely to be available in Australia I think.

Turramurra, Northside, Cheeky Monkey, Clarence St. Surely one of them will have what you want, but take two wallets with you.

England 96-1 for . How good is Warne?

Warnnie wants to be next Australia's cricket captain if ponting looses the ashes, hes also talking about retiring from cricket to get the selectors to pick him, instead of retiring out of the game.He would make a good tactical captain.

http://www.performancebike.com/shop/....cfm?SKU=11387 and they don't seem to ship to Australia.

Anyone got any ideas on how I might go about having one shipped to OZ?

Have you checked the price of a torque wrench from covertry's, repco or car accessory places ?1/4 or 3/8 drive torqe wrenches are available at theres stores.

Here's your Oz distributor of Park Tools. I'll see if I can get a price from them.

cleaning my bike last night and found a big crack inside the leg at the top of one of my carbon forks :( :( :( does anyone know what a new carbon fork will set me back if Lemond/ Clarence St decide for some bizzare reason not to warranty it?

Brian 09-10-05 02:36 AM

And to think I passed up a deal on plastic forks. In the other threads I keep hearing how CF is supposed to be so strong and wonderful, yet this comes after the Kracked Kervelo. Not to pick on you, but seems like CF certainly has it's problems.

p.s. When you find a good burrito in Oz, let me know.

I'm addicted to the ones you get from Lenards. Although the only other ones I've had are from Old El'Passo kits so I couldn't be called an authority. ;) [edit 2] Fark me. They're actually enchiladas. I've giving up this posting buisness tonight. I'm off to watch the cricket. :(

A few months ago I found a crack between my fork legs on the Roubaix when I was washing it. Washed it again last night and it was gone. No word of a lie. Maybe you just need to ride it some more. :p

[edit] Geez, I typed this post like I was drunk. Maybe I've been in the same state when finding and losing these cracks. ;)

Will keep my fingers crossed. They warrented my 99 Zurich (cracked frame) and it turned into an 04 Mailllot Jaune Classic :)

Shame they didnt let me keep the old stuff or you could've had em!

If you want....the LBS sells Lemond, PM me if you get a price and I will see what he can do?

Latts 09-11-05 04:50 AM

G'day fellow Aussies.

Im interested in getting a trek1000 - I like the bike, and my budget is limited. Im new to riding, but thoroughly enjoy it. I need to get a LOT of fitness, so this is my excuse to get a new bike (have to justify it to the wife somehow ;) )

Can anyone tell me if I should steer clear of this machine or not? The other one I was looking at was a diamondback criterium. Its a little bit cheaper (so my wallet is happier), but I figured I should probably spend the extra $100 to get what looks to be a better bike.

Thanks for anyt comments you might have.

HDTVKSS 09-11-05 06:15 AM

Lats, have you considered Giant? they have some good entry level bikes as well.

Witht he fork, well i didnt have much choice as it came with the bike! good Burrito in oz? tell him he's dreaming. i got hooked on the when staying with my ex in Cali. mmmmmm. enough to put on 5 or so kilos in a month! :O

Pshaw, that would be good if you could get a price? its going to be a week or so before i can get it in there as im working all next weekend etc.

current thinking is if they wont warranty it, due ot saving for my new MTB im going to go with a set of alu forks, at least for the time being. when i start doing some more road races next year ill consider the carbon forks.

has definatley steered (geddit!) me clear of even considering CF on a MTB. I have taken some happy snaps of it with the GF's digi camera if somone wants to look and give their oppinion? i dont have hosting so youl have to PM me your email

Latt's don't discount second hand. A mate just bought an 02 Trek 1200 for $500 that had been well ridden that was way better than I expected. If you want to buy new though that Trek 1000 would be fine.

FAR CANAL!!!!

531Aussie 09-11-05 01:09 PM

my ignorance of the Aus cycling scene put in another funny situation on Friday.

I got talking to some bike dude on Beach Rd who was obviously in good shape, and I was just making the typical small talk BS, not knowing who he was: "so, do you ride much, mate? Do you race at all.....blah blah.."

Turned out to be a guy named Liam Kelly, who's apparently a bit of a rider :D

Heard of him?

For my 2nd hand Lemond, I paid $1000 inc turbo trainer and assorted other goodies :)

Whats the place in Vic that sells the 2nd hand bikes? Do they have a web site?

Sold my motoXr on the weekend so look out trackies here I come.
Jock, did you have any 2nd hand track bikes lined up?
:D

jock 09-11-05 04:29 PM

Nope. Looked for about 10 weeks on ebay and they were all total crud. One guy from north shore had an old bike for reasonable dollars, but it just wasn't shiny enough for my liking.

Trubble with most 2nd hand track bikes is that you can never tell how much of a flogging they've had. Hard sprints put a bit of stress into the frame, especially at the BB. And if they're at a decent price it's usually because they've gone through twenty riders before they get to you !!

Spend the extra $$$ and be happy with a brand new felt/raceline/whatever.

Velocraft?

You guys missed a nice handicap yesterday, nice and sunny, plenty of pain !! C grade got it, Crafty took first.

Best to stay ignorant I reckon Nev. Works for me.

Of course, the fact that I couldn't really give a shˇt about bike racing helps a lot. (Says the guy who's racing the Melbourne 12hr Enduro next weekend)

Will get out for a lunchtime blast today. Was planning on a trip up Kincumber on sunday but findin it hard to ride the bike up there due to the rust factor... think I need to get over it!

PS. Jock, crafty has track nuts listed on ebay!!!

Ha. I didn't miss a thing!

My daughter is a cycling nut and I was duty bound to take her to Jr Development.
There were tears at 8o'clock when the rain started coming down and I told her it wouldn't be on! But then just as I was getting set to done the race gear it started to fine up again. Damn!!

She won her handicap race by a bike length and now she's dead set keen on trying her hand at a proper racing bike. Does anyone know a good bank manager who is friendly toward cyclists?

Hmmmm.... you psychic or summint? LBS got the second nut in, but it turns out that both are the wrong size (10mm instead of 3/8"). Lucky jimbo was working on Saturday otherwise I wouldn't have known any different!

Anyway, I'm off to DGV on Friday for a 'crash course' in track racing :D
