Beautiful bikes, I am so jealous! I want a new Greg LeMond so bad.

Tickstart 03-24-15 07:22 AM

Is greg lemond still the only american to win the tour de france? And please turn the stems the right way, down!

So far so good!

I've made some changes.

Full Enve Cockpit and it how has Dura Ace C24 tubeless wheels.

The bike is fast and feels very responsive.

Here's my 2008 LeMond Victoire Dura Ace. Having liked what I'd read about LeMond bikes, I jumped on Craigslist one day and searched "LeMond". This was the fourth one that came up. The original owner bought the bike and just never rode it, he told me 'I have literally ridden it less than 50 miles!' I arranged to meet him halfway between our homes, about fifty miles away, gave it a quick spin and pronounced it sold.

The bike is completely original right down to the tires, it rides beautifully. It is interesting to note how "fast" it is compared to my Roubaix. The Roubaix is an SL2 frame, and I think it took really riding the LeMond to notice how one frame/wheel combination can have such a dramatic effect on ride, speed, etc. The SL2 frame has been improved upon in recent years, I realize. The LeMond is a very smooth ride, though it's tough to say if there is one factor making that difference. Handling is similar to that of the Roubaix, but sharper-it goes where you point it.

Original list price was around $4200, the guy I bought it from pretty much took great care of it and absorbed the depreciation for me over seven years, I got it for $900. And yes, I love owning a Trek product with Greg's name on it, in particular a yellow one! If you look closely you can see that yellow paint is a metallic; it's gorgeous.

I was wondering if anyone has an idea as to what a for sale price might be on a 1999 LeMond Alpe Duez 53cm. I did upgrade the crankset to a 9 speed Shimano 105 Compact Double (original 105 crankset would come with it if desired). I also have a set of NIB Shimano 105 brifters (same model as original). The BB, cassette and chain have also been replaced and the new drivetrain has less than 100 miles on it.

I am not comfortable on a road bike anymore and my body is starting to complain.

Any suggestions as to what I might ask for it?

Thanks for your input.

I've got a 2004 Zurich that is getting ready to be sold.

With apologies to the C&V crew who are probably tired of seeing it. :)
94, pre-Trek, made by Bilato Bros. It hung up in Marcel's shop, Bicisport in Laguna Beach for 20 years, preserved by its high price tag.
Spend 7 years lusting after it, and made myself a deal one weekend last year: I'll ride up there, and if it's gone, I'll quit obsessing; but if it's there, I have to buy it.
I only ride it on low humidity days, and only on clean roads. <3

My 2004 Arrivee, I've had it a year and put almost 6000 miles on it. Also posted on titanium thread.
My favorite LeMond!
Also my 2004 Tourmalet, bought frame and put together from parts. First year for alloy frame, I believe.
As long as I'm posting, heres the one that started my LeMond obsession, my
2006 Versailles.
I had a 2000 Zurich but sold it, frame was to big for me. Also have an Etape frame.

The first poster missed a bet by not naming this thread "24 Hours of Lemonds"

Ok to post urls i have to make at least 10 posts. Well, I just made this account to share my LeMond with you all.

1996. The original.

bogol 05-29-17 08:45 AM

Now, forgive the spam, but I will need to post 9 more posts before the pics can show... Oh the forums requires 30s between posts. I guess I give up.

Hmmm, since this has been resurrected I'll add two more.

1989 Greg Lemond Ventoux, Billato Brothers built from Columbus Cromor tubing. My go to comfort ride for centuries:

And the 1990ish Maillot Jaune also built by the Billato Brothers but made with Columbus TX and sporting a proper Campagnolo groupset. Actually getting ready to head out on this one right now.
