I started out buying an old Zurich that looked like hell, it was my Guinee pig for learning how "modern" bikes were built, part quality, ride characteristics, etc. here are some others along the way...https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5e6a69a18e.jpg

my current is the '01 Zurich wi/6700 components, a good day rider. I have another '01 57cn Maillot Jaune frame in beautiful shape I'll rebuild w/7700 dura ace as orig spec'd soon as well. currently building up a '06 British green Croix de Fer loaner for a friend of mine, decent frame in 105 and dura ace /open pro wheelset, hopefully get him into riding so he can purchase his own bike down the line. these lemonds are easy bikes to built, and great sub 20lb er's.

An '05, True Temper Platinum OX tubing. I have a road wheelset for this as well, which I have ridden on Colorado's Triple Bypass and Copper Triangle road rides, among others. Love this bike.

My 2002 Alpe d'Huez

The "Before" photo. As it looked when I bought it off Craigslist:

The "After" photo. Replaced original 105 Triple with Ultegra 6800 and wheels with Mavic Kysrium SLs. Also replaced handlebar, tape, stem, seat, water bottle cages. Added Garmin Vector 3 PM pedals that I share with my other two road bikes. Rides beautifully.

Guess I can add in my latest (and 7th) Lemond. A 2006 Versailles I found locally this winter. Hodgepodge of mismatched parts that did not work right together. Upgraded to mostly Dura Ace/Ultegra with some light FSA SLK cranks with Wickwerks triple chainrings. It's also sporting new carbon fiber bars and my light November Nimbus wheels.

Just brought this one home today, 2003 Nevada City with 3x8 gearing and 10-15 years of garage grime. All I’ve done so far is swap out the bent front wheel for one I had hanging in the garage and remove a few outdated accessories the previous owner left on the bike. Weighs 19Lbs per the luggage scale as it sits.

Had an early 2000s LeMond titanium (yellow with red & black decals). Got it off Craigslist at a great price and flipped it. Made some $, but already regret it. However, I didn't like riding it so... Anyway, have a Zurich with carbon/853 on the indoor trainer now. Will post pics when I get to 10.

My '99 Tourmalet's latest incarnation as a fixie. I just got some Gravelking 32's, and was surprised they fit. I thought i was doing good just being able to run 28's on this.

first Lemond

I purchased this 2003 Lemond Poprad 2 weeks ago. I saw it on C'list and drove 86 miles to look at it, drove back with it in my car. New powder coating last year, upgraded from Sora to Ultegra 9 speed, Ultegra hubs with Open Pro rims, nearly new Gatorskin 32s. I have put close to 300 miles on it and I absolutely love the ride. I wanted an 853 Reynolds frame for quite awhile, and am very pleased with it, fairly light yet quite stiff.

Nice, is that TSX? What year? Was it made by Billato Bros? Looks to be about a 57 cm.

Really enjoying my “Custom” spine frame project. Even commuted on it today!

Traded some parts for this today. Trimmed the steerer tube and swapped the stem, headset and seatpost. All black components will look sick. Gonna rewrap my bars in black Cinelli tape too. This is where I am at so far. Going to do it 1x10 with a Sram GX clutch rear derailleur and and a single downtube shifter going to a 11-27 Ultegra cassette and a Shimano 105 42t ring on a RaceFace road crank.

I recently put the same tires on my 2001 Buenos Aires and was pleasantly surprised that they fit. Makes for a very comfortable ride.

Hi to all on the Lemond thread. I have pulled out of storage a 2005 Lemond Sarthe that I bought 10 years ago. Recently my Carbon bike was stolen and I want to build up the Sarthe. It is just the frame, handlebars, fork, post and seat. I have a pair of Kyserium ES wheels, that were the backups for my carbon with an sram 10 speed cassette. What gruppo should I use to build the bike? I live on the East End of Long Island basically sea level- the highest hill is 340ft. I am not married to the sram cassette. I want something to make a real cool bike as I absolutely love the Orange/Creme color. What ya think?

how about a pic?
its a wonderful frame, if you can go to a ultegra 6800 system, do so ------------- 11spd is smoother. the shifter handles even more comfy, and easier to set up than the 6700 system. not worth it to go to dura ace, and the 105 11spd not as mech good according to a friend who has both. I have the 6500/6600/6700/6800/R800disc, as well as 7200/7400/7700/7800 and a couple of 5500 105 systems on most of my rides and find the 6800/R8000 to be much nicer ego and mech wise to make them the choice. 6800 can be found cheaply enough now, and the longcage GS especially because there are so many out there --------- unlike the rd6700gs which is very diff to find and over priced because it is rare on ebay

on campy, I'd avoid only because resale seems to find shimano buyer out there 5-1 on the used market, and you have to consider the resale part as well. SRAM is always the choice as well, but no one I have experience in, hopefully someone else will chime in here about SRAM.

wheelsets are numerous out there, HED can be found used for a decent price and are built wider. bontragers only after 2005 or so, and could be bought for less. watch for worn brake tracks and frozen spokes.

with all of the folks out there going to disc, road or gravel, the market for the used parts, sometimes used very little, from the rim brake only era have come down for those who love them.

hope this input was helpful in some way!

cycledog1 05-11-20 08:33 AM

love it. wasn't this a threaded fork? without trading out the fork, how did you convert to a full size ritchey 1 1/8" stem?
