Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cargo Case Export from Performance

I just turned in all my performance bucks and a few gift cards on this case. Anyone got some good hints on how to keep their bike more safe and sound then what the dirrections show. Whats your exspierence with this case or others while packing?

I have shipped both my wifes bike and my bike to Hawaii several times using the performance case. The only trouble I had was with my bike fitting(63cm). Other than that, I did make sure that there were absolutely no moving parts in the case. I used a lot of zip ties and extra padding. I never had much luck with the straps inside the case, I just jamed lots of foam padding inside to make sure everything was nice and secure.

You could ask the folding bike crowd too about packing a bike for air transit.

Thanks for the info guys. That is a huge help. Especially about the straps I didn't know what to think of them since they are tied to the side of the case and if the case were to be deformed by pressure it would loosen the straps right?

I rented that case from my LBS not long ago, and it worked extremely well. I second the comment about packing everything so there are no moving parts inside, but that was easy enough. I found that there was even enough room to pack my helmet, shoes, gloves, pedal wrench and other gear inside.

I worried that packing the wheels next to the outer plastic edge of the case would damage them, but with the skewers taken out they came through just fine.

My only complaints with the case were the fact that it doesn't have any handles on the sides -- only on the end. This makes it difficult to pick up and put in the trunk of the car, for instance. The other complaint was the $80 each way the airlines charged to transport it. But aside from making the reservation through certain travel agencies (or travelling internationally) I don't know anything that can be done about that.

Did you buy the case to go someplace in particular, or just for general future travel?

Yes, the straps will loosen, but seem to be a good way to get the frame positioned in the case.

I find myself traveling alot so the case was a good buy since it also can be used on the roof rack as a lugage compartment. On my last trip to Texas I borrowed a friends case and was nervious about the airlines and it because there was no possitive stop with the insetion of the top part of the case to the bottome and I was worried about rear seat stays and the front forks getting crushed. By the way on that flight the first leg of my flight only cost me 50 dollars and on the way back they didn't charge me. This was so wierd and then while I was being charged on the first a guy had some goof clubs and got them on for free!! whats up with that bull?
