Give me a break. Racing in the NY area starts the first weekend of March - which is especially preposterous this year (not that it isn't EVERY year) because Central Park (where the first Spring Series races are held) has 28" of new snow on it (OK, I exaggerate, 27.9") as of this morning.

I wonder how deep the snow in England is? Oh, that's right it doesn't hardly snow in England.

There are more racers here than you might think. I did my first race of the season over the weekend. A three stages over two days. I gave a detailed race report, where it belongs, in the Road Racing sub forum. PizzaMan races and did the same but without all the BS that EURO brings with his posts. Go look at Pizza's and my report and you'll see reply's that are supportive. I have zero sympathy for the type of reply's EURO recieves, he has brought this on himself. As the season starts to really get going you'll see more and more race reports from members here.

So? Most BF members aren't doing it to prove to other BF members that they can do it, nor do most BF members come here with the admitted purpose of pissing other BF members off.

Not only that, but he's a hypocrite -- not long after dissing people for posting pictures of older road bikes here in Road Cycling and not in Classic & Vintage, he started discussing his road racing "career" here in Road Cycling instead of Road Bike Racing.

You can't pull that kind of stuff and not expect some flak for it.

fifao 02-13-06 11:42 AM

Well, I should of posted those pics of my old bike in Cl&Vin, but I was largely unaware of it's existence.

It does seem sort of wierd, though; him doing just wwat he told others not to do.

Starclimber 02-13-06 11:54 AM

Yeah, he's not exactly lovable, eh? Gotta say his position on the bike looks good, considering the 'old man's' set-up he was slagged for. Maybe it's just me, but with his expression and lean face, I think maybe he's really 'Bean' Cousins.

AndyGrow 02-13-06 12:02 PM

My GOD people - it is the INTERNET.

Has it really gotten this far out of control? Jeeeezus.

Let it GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

HAHhHHAA. I love Mr. Bean slightly more than Euro. Both are great, though (Euro because he has the balls to stand up to the flock of shee... err... regulars on this forum, and Bean cause... well....this:)

Wait....I've been doing it wrong all this time. I thought that this is what the internet is for. This and porn.

The Spring Series races there are about 30 -40 miles long if memory serves (I haven't raced there since '98 or so). But fun. That's where George Hincapie (The Hardest Working Man in Cycling) kind of got noticed. He's a local boy from Long Island. He was kicking Cat 1-2-3 ass all over that course when he was like 18 : ).

It's a 6 mile loop through the greatest park in the greatest city. Best damn place I ever raced. Nice little climb up in Harlem on the north side of the park. Just big fun to race in the Big Apple. What a blast. NY City racing scene always seemed very cool to me. More friendliness than road nazi vibe. Never had a problem in Manhattan or Brooklyn (Prospect Park) and raced there dozens of times.

Ahhhh....did I hit a nerve?
Duh....

You still don't get it do you? I'm doing it because it's part of my social scene and a sport I've loved for 20 years. Sadly, many people on the forum attached themselves to my season's goal because they simply couldn't beleive that I could do it. That, is the really sad thing. The total lack of imagination.

Given people so readily doubted me (as they did regardin gthe Cyfac with full Record), I couldn't ignore the possibility of making people look stupid.

No, I totally get it.

But answer me this: if it's a part of your social scene and a sport you've loved for so long, why do you care so much about proving the unbelievers wrong? Why is that so important to you?

That's why I doubt your motivations. You may very well race because you love it, but your actions here certainly speak to a different reason.

substructure 02-13-06 01:31 PM

I'll say up front, "I was wrong."
I believe you can and will make it. Sorry for the doubt. May you go beyond top 1000 and dive in the top 500. Peace.

No doubt that there are a lot of good riders in this forum. Some race, others don't. That was not my point.

All I said is that unlike a lot of people on this forum, Euro did not lie about his riding abilities. It cracks me up when I read all the crazy averages, insane power outputs and gears used on climbs that even the pros cannot push. In one post Euro mentionned his power output and in another post he mentionned his time up Alpe d'Huez, the two matches. That's sufficient for me to give some credibility to his posts.

Now, Euro can sure use some Ben's manners though. I am certain that in real life he is more Ben than Euro.

EURO 02-13-06 01:51 PM

Because proving people wrong is so much fun. Especially when they are so emphatic about it, and seemed to get so much glee from thinking they were right.

DerekU2 02-13-06 02:05 PM

Euro: Congrats on the good result. Like others have stated, this belongs in the RR sub-forum, but nonetheless it's a good result.

Others: Stop. Breathe. If Euro really is here just to piss you off, wouldn't you do well to just not give him the time of day? Go into your user control panel and add his nick to your ignore list. Problem solved. If his aim is really to piss people off he'll just go away when no one pays attention. If not, you won't be bothered with him anymore. Be the bigger person.

patentcad 02-13-06 02:13 PM

Intially, Euro really pissed me off. I thought he was an arrogant, clueless putz.

Then I came to love him. Why? Because:

• Yes, he's incredibly arrogant, but he is far from clueless about cycling, even though I may not always agree with him

• The way he pisses people off (myself included) is the grease upon which this sled slides

• He's British

• Anybody who races (even the most profound Road Nazi) can't be all bad

And Derek, please, Euro IS here just to piss us off. At least he has a purpose in life.

OH PLEASE.. This is ALL you do in your posts. It's not that we don't think you could do it, it's that your unfortunate personality makes us wish you won't do it.

Ben Euro whatever, it takes more than race results to get respect.

LowCel 02-13-06 02:41 PM

I think we should start a poll.

1) How many people thought that Euro couldn't get into the top 1,000.

2) How many people just didn't care?

For once, I agree with completely!
