PC/Shimano.
I've been a PC user for 20 years (at 28 years old) and can count on one hand the number of times I've touched a Mac. Not a hater or anything, just never bothered. PCs were a pain in the ass back in the 9x days but I think they finally got it right with XP. My home PC never crashes and the 100 or so I support at work are pretty problem-free as well despite a wide range of competency with my users. Shimano- It's what came on my bike, works fine, costs less. I have no compelling reason to make a switch. |
Suntour VX on the Centurion, DA/Ultegra on the Cervelo

When's the last time that you've seen a bunch of people crowded around a PC laughing and having a good time with software that shipped on the machine? Wow, your Mac is amazing. You mean you can take pictures AND look at them. How revolutionary. I really have to run out buy one of these new fangled fruit computers. |
This is a stupid thread but I'll chime in
Mac and PC (75/25 usage ratio) and Campy. My main computer is a Powerbook. I've never had problems with my Macs. I have a PC cause I need it for cyclingpeaks. And Campy? 'nuff said |
Everyone on here spewing about the lousiness of macs...
Remember your hubris the next time you get a virus attack, or have to download another gajillion patches and security updates to keep yourself safe. Think about this the next time you have several million popup windows offering you mortgages and porn. Then, come over to the light side of the force, where nobody bothers writing exploits to get into my machine :) PC at work, fine with it, Mac at home, better than fine with it by a long shot. Shimano on the bike, because that's what it came with and I don't quite get the reason for the thumb shifters, personally. It's whatever you're used to. |

I don't hate them... But they ARE a unique crowd. A friend of mine was actually trying to figure out how he could get Linux installed on his microwave. |
My bro just got ubuntu.
Me: Windows, Shimano. Windows because Apple had ****e games at the time I got my PC (5 years ago), and I was used to using windows already. Shimano because thats just what my LBS had when I bought my first bike, and now I'm used to it. |

Crowding and laughing depends on what's on TV. I've seen lots of people laughing at Macs too though... |

Only the best for me, life is too short: Mac + Campy. ;)
I have used Shimano and it's very good as well so I would say Campy=Shimano and Shimano=Campy. Never used SRAM but why not? I do not like the sticking shifting cables on Shimano though and do like the Campy FD minute adjustment feature very much. Mac vs PC is a whole different story. I am a developer of multi-platform software (work on both). I have such good esteem for the PC-Windows system that I do not own any such machine anymore. All my work is done from Mac-Intels, all my codes are written from these computers and then tested on Windows using BootCamp. I do remotely control my clients' computers, Macs or PC, from ... a Mac. Am I writting design/graphical software? No! I write accounting and management systems. And yes, my clients are all businesses. Some even converted from very sophiticated PC systems (Windows, Unix). Once they switched they never came back, not even a thought. They save so much money in maintenance and training, and so much in sanity. And they even look cool! True, 10 years ago Macs were not at their best. Today they are head and shoulders above anything else. The only people laughing around PC are consultants because for the same work it triples to quadruples their billing time, plus there's always a pletoria of additional items to take care of. |

Take that 10% and buy yourself a cornucopia of anti-virus-spam-hacker-threat software - none of which I need for my Mac. |

Macs are not immune to viruses. There is nothing special about them. As they gain popularity, you can be quite confident that there will be plenty of viruses to destroy your computer. |

Then, come over to the light side of the force, where nobody bothers writing exploits to get into my machine :) Most of the stuff people consider to be viruses are actually installed by the users themselves when they install "free" programs. There are fewer of these programs available for the Mac. If you're writing malware, it makes more sense to target the OS that the vast majority of people use. If technology were all about using what's best, everyone should be using the Dvorak keyboard layout. I'm not brand loyal. I like Shimano and SRAM because the bang for the buck seems better but I'm willing to switch. In 1984, the Mac was by far the best thing out there. Fast forward more than 20 years, and they still haven't figured out how to make a mouse that makes sense despite the fact that they charge plenty. |
pc and campy.
