PC and Shimano. I compartmentalize and have a controlling personality, as well, just like most of the people I work with.

3MTA3 04-17-07 09:44 PM

PC, which is almost dead & when it does i'm going strait to a new powerbook. yum.

shimano & campy. have 'em both. like 'em both. how 'bout that?

Chris9 04-17-07 09:46 PM

Matter of fact, you should buy a lotto ticket.

Nachoman 04-17-07 09:53 PM

PC - not to happy with it.
Shimano (ultegra) very happy with it.
Shimano (105) less happy.

Mac & Shimano

I love how this debate always gets people fired up.

Let me speak about a couple of things in favor of the Mac.

One, I am the IT manager for my (small) company, so I deal with Windows all day long. I go home to a Mac, because as someone who works with PCs constantly, I want something that works, and works well (i.e. NOT a PC).

Two, if you look at the way most people view their PCs, they think of them like an appliance, like a dishwasher or a stove or what have you. Most Mac owners, I've found, view their Macs a little bit more like a fun toy AND an appliance. I'm not sure how to put it into words, exactly, but most Mac people actually LIKE their computers more than most users like their PCs.

Three, I just helped one of our employees set up her Macbook. We took it out of the box, I downloaded all the updates, and she started using Photo Booth with the built in camera (the Mac people will know what I'm talking about). She was laughing and having a lot of fun, as were several of our coworkers. When's the last time that you've seen a bunch of people crowded around a PC laughing and having a good time with software that shipped on the machine?

Good Point. You're right in that this debate always gets people fired up.:D

Interesting...seeing as how Mac OS is basically a BSD distribution (yes I know that's redundant), it is very handy when you have to work in a Unix environment say for programming... I just don't see the same capability using DOS. Don't get me wrong, I've been a PC person all my life but Macs aren't the "artsy" useless machines that you think of. Just because the majority of Mac users use their macs for simple tasks doesn't mean that it's a simple machine. I use both Mac and PCs equally as I work in an environment where both systems are implemented. And by work, I provide IT support for both systems so I use them day in and day out. When I come home...well working on bikes is a nice break from all that computer stuff.

Is that a UC davis jersey you're sporting? Davis riders are doing quite well in the WCCC...but not this weekend at our home school:D

I have PC and Campy.

PC- Because it's cheaper, and good enough to shop online and surf Bike Forums.

Campy- Because it's better, and it's what matters in my life. All my extra money from saving on my cruddy PC goes towards my bike gear. :D

marqueemoon 04-18-07 01:34 AM

Whatever was on the bike when I got it generally. My next drivetrain purchase will probably be friction barend shifters because I want to be able to run whatever I want. And yet I am a Mac person. You figure it out :D

Because they get their Shimano Dura Ace components for free.

And cannot stand those stupid thumb buttoms.

Thumb buttons could be tolerated if Campagnolo Record components were provided for free.

PartyPat 04-18-07 03:43 AM

PC and shimano,
never used a mac or campy but would like to try both to compare them myself.

I've always preferred the thumb buttons. For some reason, I like how it provides a completely seperate mode of shifting without having to pivot the entire brake lever. But then, like anything, it really is a preference.

Shimano and Windows/Linux

joshalope 04-18-07 06:50 AM

Both computers and bikes are just tools to get a job done, and just because different tools work in different ways doesn't make one better than the other. What matters is how we use those tools. With that in mind, I'm an Apple and Shimano kinda guy because that's what's most comfortable for me.

waterrockets 04-18-07 07:00 AM

I like computers and bike parts.

We need an open source gruppo...
