Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I didn't take it off the bike but I measured on the top from the center of the steerer tube to the center of the handlebar clamp and got 110mm.

Edit: When I measured along the side at the centerline from center to center as described in your thread on it, I got 100mm. This was done on the bike too, so there is some uncertainty there, but hopefully it helps.

BTW, FWIW, I have a 73 degree headtube angle as well.

Fuji Roubaix!!!

So I went in to my LBS planning on gawking at the road bikes....again. I have been narrowing my choices to a newest, or something in that price range. I was checking out the Roubaix, wishing I had the money. They were even having a sale which tortured me more, the $1300 '09 was on sale for $1050; even though thats a pretty good deal, whos got $1050. THEN, I look up, and there is a BEAUTIFUL '08 on sale for $850!!! While stilll a little out of the range I was looking for, I really liked the bike. While talking to the sales man, he lets me know about the presidents day sale, $100 off anything $500+, that brings me down to $750!!! Now Im frustrated because it seems like I am SUPPOSED to have this bike, but I still dont have the money. He brought it down, and of course it was the right size and everything, so Im kind of pissed at this point. Im basically looking to get a bike when I get my tax return, but Im sure I wont find the same deal. Then the guy lets me know about 0% financing for 6 months. BOOM, I finance the bike, and now I am the proud owner of a '08 Fuji Roubaix. I am going today to get it fitted and everything. Will post pics when I get it home.

Funny how things work out some times.

Now you've gotta get:

Pedals
Helmet
Shoes
(Bam! They've got their $100 back and more!)

bibs
Jersey
gloves
lights
tubes
patchkit
saddlebag
food
waterbottles
sportsdrink
(BAM! Even more right there!)

And if its cold:
armwarmers
baselayers
booties
etc, etc.

Moral of this story:
You were not 'meant' to get this bike just because the salesman offered to get it for you $100 off. He just wanted the sale and it looked like you would probably need other things as well.

what's funny is that you bought a bike before you were fit.

Wow. Not the sort of replies I expected...
Well no salesman even talked to me, I actually had to go and find one to get me the bike and ring me up. I also got 10% store credit back on everything I spent, so BAM, got my pedals, gloves, and shorts for free! Already have a few jerseys, camelbak, and lights. Thanks for the congrats though.

Here are a few pics....sorry, not the best, all I have at my disposal right now is my phone...

I ride a Bianchi L'Una and an older Bianchi steel frame Campione. I ride the Campione more (I like the ride, even though it is a lot heavier...).

Don't worry about it. We sell bikes and then fit them later frequently. Usually because the fitter (store owner) is so booked up with fits that there's no way to get a fit before you leave the store. I assume that you were able to get a bike that was close to your correct size (as most people are) and that there will only be some adjusting to the stem, bars, seatpost, and saddle angle needed. Fitting is important and nice to have, but isn't as critical as some make it out to be. If you're racing, yes. If you have weird fit issues, yes. General cyclist...not so much.

Sounds like they basically gave the bike to you. Have they been in business for a long time? Considering the cost on that bike versus what you paid and the 10% store credit thing..... I think they actually paid you to take the bike.

Thanks, yeah, the guy did a sort of 'quick fit', and had me jump on it, pedal and whatnot before I bought. I went back to had all the adjustments done.
Yeah, it was actually performance bikes in Santa Monica. The guy who helped me was great, and they seem like they have pretty good customer service also, aside from being real busy and mabey a little understaffed. 10% store credit on everything you buy, and free adjustments for life, I definatly feel secure in buying from them.

Thanks for the post.

sorry dude, but that doesn't look like that good of a good fit. 10% is industry standard, btw. and it's not surprising that you had to find someone to help you at a performance shop. i'm shocked that they even had the fork on the right way...

Hi BikeWNC,

Where did I miss that you were getting this. Very nice. Is this in addition to your Ti bike or a replacement?

Its good that they gave you store credit. But I would take the shorts and the camelback back and get waterbottles and bibs. Not only are they not as functional, they scream FRED!

Here is some advice from a respected local coach.
