Accelerade tastes fine to me, much better than plain water. I can't use Cytomax at full strength, it's way too sugary for my taste.

I find it funny that all of us amateur riders require some sort of special forumla of energy drink. Honestly, I stick with gatorade (powder bought at Costco) and it tastes okay when warm.

I like the Accel gels too-- Strawberry-Kiwi, Orange and Key Lime. It's hard to believe they taste so much better than Accelerade.
I sent off an email asking Pacific Health Labs if they just changed the packaging for Accelerade or if they also improved the god awful taste. Anyone know if its the same nasty shiat? Does the bottled stuff taste any better?

I am currently working through a container of fruit punch. It is tolerable. I previously had a container of lemon-lime and didn't like it. My next investment in sports drink will be cytomax. I'd kinda like to try Gu2O but no shop around here carries it. I really like the Gu gels.

I agree that one just two bottles it will not work. But I have ridden pretty much that a couple of times this summer, and guess what, 3-4 bottles and some energy gels/cliff bars do the trick.
If you are saying that two bottles of Accelerade is going to get you over that distance and climbing, you are being disingenuous.

I drink Accelerade on every ride over 40 miles, almost through a 56 serving container I bought earlier this year. I mix and freeze the bottle the night before since it definitely tastes better cold.
Personally, I like having the protein in there rather than pure carbs.
I've been drinking fruit punch, though I just ordered a big container of lemon lime. We'll see if you guys are right.

Fruit Punch for me. The blue one and the lemon-lime ones I don't like.
Didn't like GuO2. Gatorade gives me cramps, weird no? I do like Gatorade Endurance formula though.
Didn't like Cytomax, but I've only tried it at organized centuries where it's likely watered down.
Gookinaid has a very light taste that's refreshing but it doesn't have protein.

The full 120 miler with 12k ft I've done on 1 bottle of accelerade/tang mix, 1 bottle of gatorade, 1 cliff bar in the beginning, and 1 muffin at the end with a bunch of water. So as to wondering why some "amateur riders" need a specialized energy drink, because not all of us prefer to carry around a humongous sack of gels and cliff bars.
Of course in communist china, we weren't allowed specialized energy drinks and rice water was the norm.

you can actually make your own
waterd down Orange juice + salt works great.
have used this for years in centuries or 100+ mile rides as well as lengthy hills
Also gatorade and Mountain Dew works well also. mix 1/2-/1/2.

I won't change my drink ... I have tried several, including Accelerade (w/o protein), and Gatorade is nothing but "simple" sugar water and largly ineffective by comparison to something with complex carbs. HEED wins out for taste and effectiveness, why change. When I have gone beyond 45 min. of riding and start to include Powerbars for the protein.

Accelerade tastes fine to me. Seems to work fine too as I never feel wiped out after a long ride.
And Accelerade doesn't even have to be messy. You just have to know how to mix it up right.
