Nice theory, except I think Asians make more money per household in this country than whites.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Househo..._United_States
So if it is a money thing, shouldn't we expect more Asians to be competing than whites?

Like I mentioned earlier, there were a helluva lotta South-East Asians in my old club in Chicago. That's what I meant by "other types of brown." Curiously though, I haven't met any from the west of the continent... like Indians for example.

I was surprised to see a photo of a bike race in the Racing subforum that had several black riders in it. The photo was taken in Prospect Park - I think that's in Brooklyn. Round here, not so many black racers.

Baguio is too crowded these days; it's basically a multi-college town now. My dad has a home there and we make the trip everytime I visit. You understand that you'll need a cross bike to do the tour you described right? Especially on Kennon road, that's like a category 1 climb on a one-and-a-half lane dirt road.

no need for a cross bike. i've climbed kennon several times on a road bike. just use a sensible wheelset. (Open Pros/32 hole/DA hubs)
But back on Topic, like most Filipinos I'm multi-racial. Part Malay, Chinese, Spanish and Algerian. All mixed together equals...brown. ha ha ha.

As far as science and DNA testing has been able to determine we all are the decendants of one man who lived in Africa about 60,000 years ago. So based on this we are all black. I think that the DNA testing showed that there were about 4 areas on earth that the mothers DNA comes from. So I guess that the female DNA has mutated 4 times since the male DNA mutated. Does this mean that females are just a bunch of mutants or could they really be more advanced?

Females have definitely evolved more than males.

My dread as i put myself back into action next year is the beat down im (and everyone else too) gonna get at the hands of Super Dave and Ramon in the 40+ events.
I think it also depends on where you live. MD/DC/Nova is such a melting pot that you see all ethnic groups represented on the bike. Most of us i'd like to think dont even see the color anymore. Myself, I just see a bunch of guys who ride hard and kick ass every week.

Is this a joke? First of all, try 150,000-200,000 years ago not 60,000 years ago. Do you even know what you're talking about? Just Google 'mitochondrial eve'. There's no such thing as female DNA and male DNA. Females have 2 X-chromosomes and Males have 1 X-chromosome and 1 Y-chromosome. You might vaguely be referring to mtDNA, which is mostly nonrecombining (therefore easier to trace lineages) and all offspring carry their mother's mtDNA. This 'male DNA' that you may be referring to might be the non-recombining portion of the Y-chromosome. Your last question doesn't even make sense.

A white guy with dreads like me count? No, but seriously, I think this is an interesting exercise. I'm not going to lie, I have thought about this too. I think there would be that similar reaction with the entry of other races (yes it's a made up concept, but people still act on it) into this sport. The same stuffy white guys gasping and feeling mildly uncomfortable and referring to so and so as their 'black/latino/asian' friend. In the suburbs of Detroit it is changing, but slowly. In some areas it is still a good ol' rich boy game, and it is obviously cost prohibitive.
Motorcity Madman...thank god for your good explanation of the incredible segregation that Detroit is enduring and hopefully getting over! I live in Detroit right now (near Wayne State) and grew up in the great white burbs, and then promptly got out once I had to move back to the US. There's a lot of fun city riding to do in this city (due to a small population <800k) and I have noticed through community projects like Back Alley Bikes, more non-euro decent riders.
Obviously it's something I feel kind of strongly about <=)
I also have ridden with a very dedicated Filipino rider from my work who's a bike tech.

Anyone seen this recent article about Fuyu Li, a guy from China that Discovery signed. It explains a little about how culture has in impact on sports. Good article in my opinion.

Possibly the best scene in cinema in the last 25-50 years. Incidently, that scene really wasn't about being racist. It was about making a killer who wanted to torture so angry that the killer could no longer control his emotions and _had_ to kill. That's explains the kiss and the quote, "I love this guy". It was a game. By dying, Dennis Hopper's character won the game, and Chris Walken's character knew he had been beaten.

In America, I think pretty much anyone can join in any sport they want to. Almost regardless of socio-economic conditions. More whites are probably drawn to cycling because it has generally always been a white sport where the high level competitors are white. Similar to motorsports.
The times they are a-changin'. Enter Tiger, Vijay, Lewis Hamilton, and others. The color of one's skin has F-all to do with aptitude for a sport. The question is the 'want to'. As soon as there is a successful, competitive American cyclist with dark skin (regardless of racial/ethnic/cultural background) that the media hold up as a poster boy (important distinction), then you'll see interest from black Americans. Until then, you'll just get a small influx of people who find it on their own.

mabey we could get some local riders together to storm the inner city streets of Detroit....
btw you are one brave *non black* man choosing to live down by Wayne State, that's some serious *HOOD* livin down there. Hell my getto pass is not even good down there.... they see/smell the suburbanite weakness all over me.

Not funny, but I guess you never heard of Major Taylor, the great black cyclist of 100+- years ago.I see black kids riding bikes all the time. But lets face it cycling like golf, tennis and many individual sports is a hard sport for inner city kids to get into.My take is if they did they'd do fine.
