Having read about one third of the posts I'll add: When I commuted by bike in South Africa I was the only adult white male in the city of over 25,000 who biked. All of the thousands of other adult cyclists were members of one of the 13 black tribes working there.

My grandmother was 1/4 Cherokee Indian, but my dad got the almost-blonde genes, and all of his and my very British mother's kids are blonde and freckly. I still feel left out in this thread, though. Where does white trash fit in again?

I'm half philippino... kind of on the fence as to whether it should be 'philippino' or 'filippino'... I guess there's like a million combinations really... philippino-filippino, philipin -filipino (one p?), I've even seen philippine... pinoy....

I'm sorry. Once you're tainted, you lose the privilege of calling yourself white.
Speaking of white... anyone remember the Crayola color called "Flesh"? It was like milky pink—or light peach. I remember being confused by it when I was 8-years-old in Manila. Oh well, it was the right color for He-Man's flesh at least.

As far as suntan lotion goes, try the spray on ultra sweat proof stuff. I'm using it this year and like it alot. I always had an issue getting my back and various areas but the spray makes it convienant.

I'm a filipino as well but I think you are totally wrong when you said Us filipino have no cycling culture - I guess if you just do your search you'll be proud what cycling culture the filipino have and their passion about it .. from road bike to Mt. bike filipino's are into it. Old Filipino Guy with a bamboo road bike now thats passion.
Links of some pictures to show you that cycling is not dead in the Philippines
If New Yorkers have 5 Boro - filipinos have this tour

And if you think Philippines don't have races well check again - I don't know what part of the Philippines you from .. better check again just to prove to you

I'm Filipino. I grew up there. Sometimes I think about moving back but I can never do that; there is no cycling culture there (recreational or transportation) and both my girlfriend and I race. That's the only thing stopping us.
I see a lot of black riders out here in Philadelphia. My old team in Chicago had 3 black guys and 1 black girl, 2 other Filipino guys and 2 Filipino girls, and over a dozen other types of brown people.
But yeah, I imagine all of you as white with Australian accents.

hint-I have met only two who can do it correctly without being explained what each category is, and represents. They were University Prof.

I have really gotten into the cycling, and am even an In the closet leg shaver.
but my wife and daughter just don't get it.
they say" you look really gay, in that tight florecent spandex outfit, with those silly little ballet slippers"
and all of my non cycling male friends just flame me about the outfitt.... (god forbid they ever find out about the leg shaving, sheehss)
I just don't see, the *hard boyz* in the hood donning their cycling attire for a nice ride out in the countryside.

My background expressed graphically! A cool heavy-metal band from back in the day, too.

Then you need to visit California. I was on last Sunday's Tour de Peninsula and roadies were present despite it being just a fun ride. There were roadies of different colors sporting kits from Discovery, Liquigas, CSC and so on and so forth. There were blacks, asians, latinos, and middle-eastern roadies all over the place. Its like being in a melting-pot or something.
EDIT: Here is a list of new races to looke out for courtesy of Russell Peters:
Hook up an Italian and a Jamican = Pastafarians
Indian and Jewish =Hinjews
a chick from the Phillipines and guy from Holland=Hollapinos
Cuban and Iceland =Ice Cubes
French and Greek =Freek"

Perhaps.
If I moved to say Makati, where I would be able to find work, how many group rides do you think I would be able to find in any week? I didn't think I would find any, maybe one if I was lucky; on subpar conditions in terms of surface, traffic, pollution, and safety for me and my girl.
I was just thinking it was too inconvenient to even try, but what do I know—I was a sheltered 12-year-old when I left and only come back once every 4 years.
Thanks for the pics. The ones of the crit were really interesting.
Addendum—nismo, how many races are available in Metro Manila in a season? I'm assuming the summer is the off-season?
Addendum—I know there has been a rise in the Philippine middle-class since I left, hence a change in lifestyle and culture. So I really could be wrong... but I was imagining being the assmunch riding around in a 6k dollar bike through Quiapo. It's just a different culture.

I would like to know where the OP is from.Obviosly that will have an effect on the numbers of non white riders. The country I live in has 95% black people and 5% other races. I am white and if I see 100 riders (Not including people who ride roadsters ect for commuting) 95 are black 5 are white. The OP may live in an American suburb and it may be the exact opposite of where I live.I dont see why its even worth posting but there are many excellent non anglo saxon riders.
