Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Kinda odd that those would be in the low end models. With the rear wheel arched into the frame it looked more aero to me. You think they'd just use the same molds from the high end models in the low end ones if they were meant to be cheaper. I don't know.

Too bad they jacked the head tube lengths up for the S-works line this year... I swear they are as tall as a Roubaix was two years ago. 205mm for a 58cm bike is just dumb.

Last year the increased the non-S-works bike's HT... this year even the "race" bikes have fallen victim. Size 56 went from a 155mm HT to a 170mm, size 58 from a 180mm to a 205mm HT.

I really wanted to be on a SL2 next season, but that's not good work now.

This isn't just Specialized though, Giant increased teh HT lengths on even the TCR Advanced for this season. Too much complaining from old racer wannabees who buy aggressive frames and then find they aren't comfortable. Oh well.... I'll be on a Time or Look next season I suppose. Really a shame, because I like Specialized bikes quite a bit and have owned a few.

I notice the tarmac pro frame is $1750. 07'was 2200.
Though the complete Pro Compact went from 3500 to 4000.
Don't like those roval wheels.

Still haven't got a reply. This will be my first official road bike so I'm wondering. Is 19 lbs with pedals the typical weight of a $1900 dollar bike? I'm speaking about the elite tarmac.

No one wants to answer my question huh?

Anyways, just went in and ordered my Tarmac. 2008 Specialized Tarmac Elite 56 cm with 53X39 crankset. I'm 5'11-6'. 56 sound good?

Apparently I got one of five of those size and configurations left in the country. I guess not everyone thinks the paint scheme is bad.

It's not unreasonable considering heavier wheels (+1/2-1lb), heavier stem/bar/post/saddle(+1/2lb), and heavier drivetrain(+1/2-1lb). Also, Tarmacs at least the original version was not exactly a lightweight frame weighing in around 1200grams or more depending on size. That's close to 3lbs when a lot of carbon frame are more like 2-2.5lbs

Wow, the prices are about as scary as the paint finishes. It's hard to find an Ultegra equipped one under $3000. I guess an Orbea Onix is in my future instead of a Tarmac. Shame too, I really liked the Experts color scheme...

Wonder why they're not showing the unpainted version of the SL2? It looks pretty stealth.

Pull the decals off that baby and let people guess what just went by.

that's pretty bad for a 2,000 dollar bike

Great, the Allez Compact is blue.

I set off when I got my last road bike, that aside from being about $1,000 (give or take a few hundred), it had to be blue.

Well, I didn't. BUT - I still want a nice blue road bike someday.
