Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

underseat bag for roadbike

All,

what's your fav underseat bag? I need to purchase one to carry a co2 inflator with some cartridges, a spare tube, multitool. Would prefer something on the small size.

Thanks

I have the Timbuk2 one and love it. It fits well on all my various saddles, from B17 to Flite.

Not just for aesthetics like most people complain about. I don't like taking it on and off on when it goes on the roof rack 2 times a day. (although it MIGHT not fall off, hate to lose $20 and a back up license)

I use a soft sunglasses case to hold all the goods together and a plastic fishing ID cover for my license.

The seatpost strap on the Cannondale bags tear up my shorts. Others here have noted the same problem. Avoid.

Pedro's small blowout bag.

Pretty small, but has my flat fix gear and some extra cash. I keep everything else in my jersey pockets so I'm not constantly opening and closing the bag, which is a pain. For a fill-it-and-forget-it, I like mine a lot.

Also, the gray area on that bad is made of a recycled tube, which is pretty neat. Mine is black though.

Mine is a trek bag, works fine for me. I keep a mini tool, schrader converter, and garage door opener in it. I personally don't like a bunch of crap moving around in my jersey pockets. All personal preference of course

Thumbs up on Timbuk 2..just fits everything you need. I HAD looked at a cool little Topeak sack that had a side zipper to hold a small multi tool seperate from tubes, and other stuff, but it had a 'cleat' type mount that wouldn't fit on my saddle rails..it was however a GREAT design!

I just got a timbuk2 bag - had to get the medium because the small is really small. It doesn't fit a tube, but it fits all my repair stuff (CO2 inflater, cartridges, patch kit, levers) plus it has a key leash. So now the tube goes in my jersey pocket. My previous bag was ugly, so I don't mind having one more item for my jersey.

Neat, yes. But not the least bit durable in my experience. I had two that disintegrated after about 15 months of use.

I can get a tube, key, levers, and a small patch kit, my license and a couple of bucks in my small..it's a little tight but it works! I don't do Co2 so not an issue there..I like the Timbuk 2 but wanted to keep to a small...

Happy Riding!

I have a LG bag, however the more I ride the more I want to get rid of it.... I'm going to have to start putting my jersey pockets to better use. Also the strap that goes around the seat post is starting to wear out.

My vote goes for Topeak bags with the quick release. This allows me to use the smallest size for everyday 15 to 20 mile rides, but for longer rides , or when the weather suggests more storage needs, I can quickly clip on a bigger bag.

I vote for the Topeak wedge, small or mini. It is clean looking and holds a surprising amount of tools, etc.

The Timbuk2 looks nice but does not have a strap to hold a rear blinkie light, which is essential in a seatbag as far as I'm concerned. Particularly with the days getting shorter, a rear light is very important, and I would rather attach it to my seat bag than my frame or seat post.

+1 on topeak.
I love the plastic/rubber seatpost attachment it has. so much better than a velcro strap.

I have never had my seat bag or computer fly off while on a roof rack, and that includes multiple local trips plus trips from Los Angeles to Fresno, Las Vegas, San Jose, Tucson, Portland, Seattle, etc. I figure if the bag can hold on while I'm riding it at 50 mph with my legs brushing by it 90 times per minute, it's pretty safe on the highway.
