Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

While not a huge deduction I'm penalizing -10 points, house brand seatposts and stems are a true no no when "maximizing" bling on an italian steed. Where"s the ITM, DEDA ?

I think these are the only components that match the 1k weave.

a trek carries about as much bling as a ford taurus.

I think a prerequisite is panache. if the bike has none then there is no bling.

Cervelo's have none. altho the SLC-SL is a mighty fine steed I don't see it as bling. just a racing bike.

anybody agree / disagree?

this is blings purest form..

Agreed, whoever thinks Cervelo are blingy got owned by their marketing.

The following list is what I considered bling:

Handmade Steels (Vanilla, Richard Sachs)
Calfee
Colnago
Crumpton
De Rosa (some of their bikes are damn ugly)
Look
Parlees
Pinarello
Storck
Time

For those who think BMC, Cervelos, Orbeas are bling, they're not, they are just racing bikes.

Cervelos are not bling. Is the Soloist Aluminum bling? No. R3 bling? No. I see those way too often.
Soloist Carbon with Zipp 404s bling? No. Nice job there though, replicating the exact same style as team CSC. How original. Might as well buy a Trek Madone with Bontrager Aeolus and be decked out in Discovery kits (or the future Astana kits).

Saying Cervelos are bling is equivalent of saying Scotts are bling. They are not bling. Nice bikes, but not bling.

I have nothing against Cervelo, and I certainly wouldn't mind owning one, but they are not bling, and everyone should stop considering them bling.

SLC-SL is bling. P3 is bling. P2C can be bling. New Trek Madone is ***gasp*** bling.

Bling does not mean euro, it doesn't mean classy, and it doesn't necessarily mean rare. It means showy and expensive and something you could put a platinum chain around the top tube of and hang on your neck.

Webster: flashy jewelry worn especially as an indication of wealth; broadly : expensive and ostentatious possessions

Encarta: rich: having or displaying ostentatious material wealth

Urban dictionary: n. synonym for expensive, often flashy jewelry sported mostly by African American hip-hop artists and middle class Caucasian adolescents.

+1 flash,...expensive, over the top for the occassional rider/racer on club level races....that can certainly qualify as bling....

Where do you draw the line?

All four of those are raced on just like Cervelo or BMC. I understand it depends on the model exact model, but most of them are pretty similar in terms of line-up and what they offer.

Rabobank, Credit Agricole, Caisse D'Epargne, QuickStep and Bouygues Telecom, etc.

This is the first thread that actually makes sense. There is nothing wrong with having or wanting to have the nicest looking bike regardless of ability.

I don't understand what about Look would be considered Bling, if you dont' condsider BMC or Cervelo to be.

Efficient and functional maybe but not "bling"

That honour goes to Rad's Chrome Pinarello.

Bling IS in the eye of the beholder. To me my titanium bike is bling. I built it piece by piece, exactly how I wanted it. It is silver, black, and white... understated, elegant, minimalistic, clean, and to me... bling. My wife refers to her diamond ring as bling... and it's not from Europe, and has no bold colors.

Bling to me is a loud looking bike with dob-off decals, shouting "LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!"

Such as that (very nice indeed) pinarello with the bora ultras...

rad is the man! IMO (which is all that counts ) many of the rest of these bikes look like trucks with the really deep dish wheels or pimpmobiles with the over the top paint schemes. They may be absolutely great at getting the most out of their riders' abilities and miracles of modern bicycling engineering, but I'm not impressed with their style. Oh, oh, my age is showing.

Yes. Even if we all know that those weirdo fork and seatstay waves are there just for the look of it.

The ultimate test: show the bike to someone who knows nothing about bikes. Nobody will notice an outrageously expensive Ti bike: it looks just like a bike. But a Pinarello with big stickers, deeeep rims with HUGE logos, all color-coordinated - you'll immediately get asked "how much does it cost" and "it must be really light", the 2 desired feedback of true bling. With a bit of luck, you can even get a "can I lift it?".

You know the guy who knows about bikes, rides a lot and puts in the effort will just wave you off as a poseur, so don't waste time there.

Now, let's get serious about bling, folks.

I see a lot of photos with Dura Ace or SRAM or (egad!) FSA cranks on them. Sorry folks. That doesn't scream wealth or form-over-substance the way bling MUST if it is to be maximum bling.

For maximum bling, only Campy carbon Record need apply. (Except for the brakes -- in that case, you need some of those skeleton-looking brakes that cost as much as an entire Dura Ace group.)

I see a lot of photos with no-name or rather pedestrian wheels on them. Tsk-tsk. Wheels are the most long-distance opportunity you will ever have for bling. You need BIG logos and BIG places to display them.

For maximum bling, you need Zipps with DEEEEEEEEEEEEP rims -- preferably a disk rear wheel. Maximum logos mean bling you can see for blocks. Hoist those sails!

Probably a polished custom titanium frame with really cool lugs. This will only appeal to a few knowledgeable people, but the knowledgeable will know that titanium is almost entirely about bling. (You CAN get titanium's benefits at lighter weights and/or less cost with other materials.)

And this part isn't very expensive -- but you need white cloth bar tape. The thinner and whiter, the better. Must be pristine. Replaced daily just to keep it white.

this is how this bike should look.

What kind of wheels are they? I can't see any product logos anywhere.

I think that's why companies are making deep wheels now. Screw aerodynamics, it's all about making your logo as big as possible.

I think something similar was uttered by Lindsay Lohan regarding drugs and alcohol as she entered rehab for the 1st time.
