I remembered seeing this thread awhile ago, and now that I've had some miles on my Cyfac Nerv thought I'd post a picture or three...big plug for Eric at VeloEuropa/Cyfac for hooking me up, what a great company to deal with.

Coming from a Cervelo Soloist Team, this bike is a dream to ride. I loved my cervelo, but if it was a ferarri then my cyfac is a BMW M5...just as responsive and stiff, while adding comfort to the mix. The black paint has gold flake in it, pictures don't do the finish justice. Pair that with the new Force grouppo and my trusty Regal saddle....i can't imagine a better bike to ride the hell out of. I race quite a bit and am not easy on bikes, and this bike is built to handle everything.

I am honestly clueless about CYFAC bikes...anyone care to explain its background hotness?

Well, it's a frame maker out of France. The frames, geometries, and build qualities are ultra top-notch, so much so that many pro racers have ordered CyFac frames and had them re-badged to the team sponsor's over the course of a decade. Pantani is one of the more known racers who ordered Cyfac frames and had them re-badged for his team's sponsor. From Cadence cycling: "Up to 2001, roughly 30% of the entire European pro peloton was riding a bike built by Francis Quilon and Cyfac's artisans in their small Loire Valley atelier. It's no wonder, then, that Cyfac's record of success speaks to loudly."

Also, if you do get a chance, stop by a store that has the Cyfac frames available in stock, even though a majority of their work is custom now. You will then see what it's about...

How much do these cost?

Edit: Nevermind, I looked on Pezcycling. $4,200 frame and fork. I wonder if that's "entry level"?
Actually not as much as I thought they would be.

Scored my frame set on eBay for $500. I was recently trying to sell it, but this thread has renewed my interest in riding it again

you know, these bikes are ok - nothing wrong with them at all, but some times people talk about 'em like they're all that. I mean to be honest my Moto Le Champ SL was in the same league IMO...

Let's be even more honest: It's the engine that counts, what you ride is a matter of preference. Your motobecane under Boonen, or me on a custom Cyfac blah blah...guess who wins 100% of the time. Not me.


However....comparing a motobecane to a cyfac as far as finish, craftsmanship, and paint is like comparing a Ford Escort to a Formula 1 car. Just ain't cool. Compare them side to side and you'll notice subtle differences that set the frames apart. As a matter of fact the only bike I've seen with better finish was a custom Parlee, and I've taken a close look a many high end frames (Soloist carbon, look 595, S-works, etc)....you should see a Cyfac Gothica up close, imho the best crafted frame money can buy.

If I ever win the lottery I'm getting a Ruegamer they are absolutely amazing.

I've seen Cyfac's close up. They're nice. I'm not saying they suck, but I'm just not overwhelmed or anything. Bang for the buck I was just left a bit uninspired is all. My Moto was absolutely in the same league as was my Scott Speedster - both could be had for a lot less which is good if you throw the things into a crit.

Finally 2 Nervs together. The roadie is a full custom Nerv, and the TT style one is a large. Im a bit monkey with very long arms and legs and a short body! Hence the ridiculous steerer tube on the custom


Hopefully theres more people out there into these great framesets. And I don't sell bikes or work in the bike industry at all. I just enjoy hobby building for friends, and quite frankly it is easy to look good building onto these frames. They are incredibly reactive, superbly balanced, handle fantastic, and quite frankly leagues ahead of stuff like Cannondale. Do not get me wrong here, I am certainly not getting down on Cannondale or any other frame manufacturer, but for me what you pay for generally is what you get. I played bass guitar for years, and used Rickenbackers because they were the best I could afford, and the same goes for Cyfac. Anyone who thinks they can buy an off the shelf mass produced bike and it will feel the same as one of these babies, is quite frankly off their nut, and suffering delusions!
