Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It is a 2007 Motobecane Immortal Pro, size 62, purchased from Mike at bikesdirect. I got it on a closeout steal of $850. Full CF frame/forks. 105/Ultegra group, FSA SL-K cranks, AC Victory wheels 24/28.
Dang, $850, that's a deal. If I ever buy a BD bike, I need to remember to have you negotiate the price.

When I got mine originally, I was called a "BD shill" for starting a thread like this. But what the hell, huh? Here's my Mercier:

I started with a Dawes, which seem to only be available via their eBay store:

I wouldn't recommend the Dawes. But the Mercier is great.

Dawes? Whoops, BD didn't quite get all of that brand.

(Dawes is dead common around here - they even sponsored the TDF TV coverage year before last - but nothing to do with the BD Dawes)

And this thread wouldn't be complete without the company who lost their branding and must now call themselves MBK instead of Motobecane:

They even show up in the ProTour.

Here's my Windsor the Hour. As Botto mentioned: new stem, brake and lever, bars, cog, pedals.

It's a lot of fun to ride and did me well when we had a rainy patch a few months ago. It's not seeing a lot of miles right now, but will get more time in the saddle in the hotter months of summer.

Saw this out on a ride a couple of months ago- Rider was out on his birthday ride. 73 miles. And he had the bike from new and the Forks had to be replaced after he hit a wall coming down a Mountain in Italy.

All this talk about BD bikes...

I got a new camera today so I figured I'd snap a few pics of my 2 week old ride.

Hopefully the gel pad will get me by for a few months until I can afford a new seat. The stock one does suck. With the $10 pad it is at least tolerable.

I actually put it there for the pics... I thought BF picture posting etiquette was to have it on both big cogs.

Shows how much I know. And no I don't ride it like that.

I don't know if money is an issue with you, it always is with me. If you haven't already purchased shoes, I woudn't even bother putting those SPD pedals on there. Those VP SPD pedals were the first thing I changed on my windsor. I'd make the immediate upgrade to another pedal style. Just my opinion.

Money is a huge issue with me right now and I've already spent more than I wanted to...

The pedals don't look or feel like they work that great to me either. I'll keep that in mind when (or if) I ever think I feel the need to put on clipless pedals. At my stage in the game I'm just happy to be riding.

An LBS probably has some garbagey pedals w/clips n straps for $10.
Like the ones that came on my Kilo TT, that I continue to use and don't mind at all.

Here is my kick ass Dawes Lighting 2100! It has been a decent bike but I have broke 3 spokes on the back tire since I bought it about a year ago. The 3rd one I broke just yesterday so that is why this picture has the broken spoke. Just bought a $200 Mavic Wheel set for it today which was almost half the price of the bike. Bought a new Kestrel Bike last month so now I only use the Dawes bike to pull around the kids in the trailer or ride when the roads are wet.
