Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I had one for awhile. Shimano drivetrain with Campy cassette. 10 speed. Worked flawless.

Bikes: A run-of-the-mill aluminum job and and cromo job of equal quality but superior ride

So so

I used one for a while to mate 10 Speed Campy to 10 Speed Shimano. It worked acceptably well, but was sufficiently imprecise-feeling to cause me to convert my wheels to Campy and buy a new derailler.

How big are they...

Are they super obvious and intrusive...

Not that I am OCP or anything but I don't want to ruin the look of a nice Scott CR1 with a Record groupset...

They are fairly inconspicuous. If you know what they look like, you'll recognize it instantly. Otherwise, probably not.

I got mine because I have a nice set of wheels that I wasn't ready to part with, and the $20 on a Shiftmate was better than hundred$ on a new wheelset.

I would prefer NOT to have it (visually) - but that will have to wait until I replace this wheelset.

That being said - mechanically - it has worked perfectly since the beginning.

Why would you want to ruin that setup with anything Shimano??

A friend of mine uses an 8 speed campy setup with shimano wheels and cassettes. He's never had any trouble with it and it shifts perfectly.

I mated 10 speed campy to 10 speed shimano cassette. It shifts flawlessly, but if the shifting goes off, it takes a bit to get it to shift properly again. My guess is that the shiftmate makes it easier to get to the setting where it works perfectly.

I like the look of campy on the 84 trek I built up, but I don't want to use anything but 10 speed shimano wheels because I'd like to be able to move my wheels between my two bikes as needed. I might buy a shiftmate if I get fed up of having to make adjustments. At 40 bucks it's a lot cheaper than buying a new wheelset and cassette.

Slash, I might be interested if anyone is selling a used one that mates 10 speed campy shifters and RD to a shimano cassette.

Isn't the alternative cable routing supposed to fix that?
