You are probably the kind that sees a guy off in the distance, with a club jersey on riding a carbon bike with Carbon Wheels and Record or DA, out on a recovery ride. You blow a nut trying to get close enough to see what gear he has and you say to yourself "Hey I'll show this guy" and think you're something special when you pass him. Meanwhile, he shakes his head and laughs at you because you are wearing your helmet backwards.

and coffee is the ultimate reward regardless of your speed!

In a nutshell....cycling is fun, as it most of this banter. If you enjoy riding your bike than the rest doesn't matter. There are elitists in every sport but as far as cycling goes, don't let them ruin your fun. Most cyclists are good folks.

A fred is a term that everyone has their own meaning for. You can make up your own. Try it. It will make you feel superior for a short time, then it wears off, unless you're mildly neurotic, then it makes you feel good whenever you apply it to someone. To find the definition of elitist, search username botto and read his posts. The meaning will become evident quickly. A shill is someone who is not so subtle about recommending a product or service they provide. Search on bikesdirect.com for real time insight into this phenomenon.

And running sucks. It doesn't have anywhere near the drama you'll find here. Enjoy.

I wouldn't worry about it. Between Tiger Woods and B. Obama, everybody is half black, half white, and half Asian. Kind of reminds me of that cool Dr. Seuss story where everybody winds up opposite colors of where they started out and can't remember who was what in the first place, so they all just get along. What a concept.

The beauty of it is between my two above posts I got in a 25 mile loop through Lanakai on my 84 Pinarello Montello, first ride after gettng it complete.. Im not so sure steel is real at this point... but it was fun.
