Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I frequently rode in my hometown as a kid with temps in excess of 110F.
Of course, it was a dry heat. Give me a nice hot dry day over anything even remotely humid.

i'm happy when we hit a high of 55! we had some snow last week..

lots of heat does suck, which is why seattle's 80-85F summers are some of the best around.

Correct.

We did a 90 miler Saturday morning. It helps when you start early when outside it's still cool.
It may just be an instinct reflex but I wouldn't want to start a ride on a hot day when sun is high up.

took the words right out of my mouth...

We'll be lucky to see those temps during the mid-summer start times of 0530 here in Phoenix.

one thing I love about riding in Texas summers is not having to worry about stopping for pee breaks.

Actually, Dynamic, my experience is that your body will adapt to heat if you exercise in it...before getting into riding I was a runner (think not much wind being generated by your motion) here in D.C. Hot days in early summer where indeed miserable but by late July when the heat had settled in you'd had time to adapt and it really wasn't that bad.

Now if you're generating a 20 mph breeze what's not to like? Maybe you So Cal types just don't have enough heat to cope with...

i moved here about 8 years ago from the UK, here are my tips:

Hydrate using electolytes. I found water was not enough.
Freeze water bottles before the ride.
Pour water on yourself.
Keep moving, air flow helps.
Think about the poor folk who are waiting for snow to melt/ rain to stop.
Hydrate

95-degrees outside. Went for a ride and I'm baked!
Might as well just hit up a beach or something, what a ripoff.

Rest of the week should be ok with averages of 70-degrees.
I showed up just in time to ride the Alpine Ride with temps in the 80's on Saturday. The ride was fun (about 600 riders) but really hot for this Alaskan!! I wimped out and rode the 60+ miler instead of the 70+ miler. My wife called to say it snowed 15" at home on Saturday.

Sunday, I rode out to La Jolla and enjoyed the cooler temps. It hit the mid 90's in the afternoon

I'm glad to be home today.
