Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Specialized Alias 143 saddle.

Great Saddle and I used to use it on my MTB. Currently, both MTB have Specialized Rival 143. It is more like a WTB in design but wider.

I rotated the handlebars forward, that puts the brake levers more vertical, also gives me more room in the cockpit when I'm on the bar ends. Thanks for the observation...

I can hook you up with people who can tell you lots of pros and hooked bar-end crashes.

Around SoCal, the further out you ride (i.e. away from casual riders and newbs) the fewer bar ends you see. It's because our riding is very rocky, technical, and punishing if you go down.

No elitism, it's just what's evolved out here. In different conditions I'd have 'em.

I guess those guys and gals are too.

BTW, I've raced with some of those guys. The 4 person SS winners are freaking nuts. They are all on full rigid 29ers.

SS and full rigid....honestly, I don't get it. We did the whole "rigid" thing 20 years ago because it's all we had.

I've got a SS road bike and only ride it when the GF and I ride together.

If you look at the photos post with that story, you will see several of the riders with bar ends....
