Ok you knuckle heads got my thread ( https://www.bikeforums.net/trash/422550-roadies-funny-bunch.html ) locked before I could post this.
Hopefully I don't tick off the Mods by posting this. Please do not attemt to resume the bikkering. It really did not belong on the other thread and it absolutley does not belong here.
Ok so I never said anyone was an jerk for not waving to me in fact I never said I felt one way or the other towards them.. Never the less the thread became about aholes & elitist roadies somehow.
Now who is an jerk and who is not. Well lets go outside and take a walk down the street.
That guy over there .. jerk, her jerk, the traffic cop definite jerk, two year old kid .. future jerk. The motherly looking type over there, you guessed it .. jerk . Okay joking over now.
I hear a lot of people defending their not acknowledging people that first acknowledge them by saying that they are working too hard, or don't see the other person in time ( a few just plain admit they are jerks : ) okay valid points, but we all know when someone who looks like they are going to blow up from their effort at any second. It's the ones who are not in any such state that confound me.
I mean it's just manners plain and simple I say good morning and you say good morning back. Don't hear me cool ,no harm no foul. Know damn good and well you heard me, yep you guessed it jerk. Same thing on the bike if you blow someone off who makes an attempt to be friendly to you then you are likely being a jerk.
Yes we all have bad days where we would prefer that everyone would just screw off and die, but even then if we have predisposed ourselves to responding positively to others who are positive to us we will likely respond and we will even feel just a little better for doing it.
So do I acknowledge you to get a response. No, but it's nice if you do, but my day will not end if you don't and maybe , just maybe you will feel a little better because I did acknowledge you. Maybe your ego needed that today. Or you may think who is this weirdo fred on the touring bike, and why the hell is he waving at me.
Anyway thats all I have to say about that
If you can keep it civil .. feel frre to discuss otherwise lets end it here.

Cival=An archaeological site in the Petén Basin region of the southern Maya lowlands, which was formerly a major city of the Pre-Columbian Maya civilization. It is located in the present-day Department of Petén, Guatemala.
Civil=not rude; marked by satisfactory (or especially minimal) adherence to social usages and sufficient but not noteworthy consideration for others; "even if he didn't like them he should have been civil".
Don't mind me, I am just being a jerk.....

You've got to be kidding. How can you start this up again and not expect the same thing to happen as before? And it's manners, not manors. Sorry for being a jerk by pointing out your error. Edit: there were like a bazillion spelling errors in that post, but that one really jumped out at me.

Feel free to point out the other bazilion, but I misspell a lot so it may keep you up at nights.

Here is an anecdote for you that is somewhat related. My wife and I have a Mini Cooper, and for a while (when there weren't that many of them) we would wave to other people with Minis. Usually they would wave back. I also have another car, a BMW, and sometimes we would forget we weren't in the Mini and anyway, but all we would get was blank stares. Then we would remember...

Fixitman, its not up to you or Lazyrider to decide who is "not in any such state" as you put it. You can't read people's minds; you don't know why they didn't respond to you. Without knowing their motivations, you cannot accurately assess whether or not they are a "jerk".

I agree... this thread can't go anywhere good.

Brian .. feel free to lock it up as it is apparently just going to go down the same road. I really had hoped that it would not, but oh well.

I don't have much of a part in the conversation but seeing this sort of quarreling always gets this song stuck in my head. And then I get creative and this happens:
Ev'rybody's talkin' 'bout
Chainrings, Bearings, Chainlinks, Race drinks, Red Storcks, CF Forks
Road-ism, Mountain-ism, ism ism ism...
All we are saying is give peace a chance
All we are saying is give peace a chance
(C'mon)
Ev'rybody's talkin' 'bout
Aluminum, Titanium, No shox and Poly socks,
Jackets, Pro kits, chainstays, and allez, allez, allez...

to the friendly wavers with hurt feelings:
humans are complex, get over it.
to the friendly wavers without hurt feelings:
sorry i didn't wave, i must have been distracted.

Jesus. I don't wave at every schmuck I see walking down the street, do I? How is cycling any different? Why do I suddenly have some obligation to wave just because we're both riding bikes? Get over it already and enjoy your ride.
I wave at people I know, duh, because I know them. That's what you do when you see someone familiar to you. If I happen to notice someone going out of their way to wave at me, and it doesn't interfere with my ride, maybe I'll nod back or something, but come on.
Seriously folks, if you really get hurt feelings when someone doesn't wave at you, maybe you need to get a job at the DMV or or the IRS or some place where you'll feel what it's like to be REALLY hated, then when you get back on the bike, it won't be so bad that somebody doesn't respond to you.
Sheesh. I got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning...

My statement does not come close to making that statement or assumption.
"I see schmucks walking down the street" does not mean "All people walking down the street are schmucks."
If A is the set containing "All people walking down the street" and B is the set containing "Schmucks," B is a contained subset of A. Being a member of set B means also being a member of set A, but being a member of set A does not necessarily imply being a member of set B.
Learn English, please.
