Thanks for the kind words, all.

ravenmore: correct. One exposure, one flash... Here's my setup shot (Taken with my Rebel, with my new old 1D MkIII in the foreground) (EXIF on both photos is intact, FWIW)

One (long) exposure and 3 flash pops? Nicely done. Good example for how bikes should be presented in the hot or not thread. ;)

I'm going to have to up my game when I get around to posting my new Giant. :D

^^Hot bike and Hot Shot! Wow you raced for 10 years on a RB-1? I bought mine because it was my dream bike displayed promentently at my LBS as a 12y/o. Now all a need is a Lamborghini Countach/Ferrari Testaroasa to complete my pre-teen dream-ride fantasies.

hey man, don't give away your secrets... you should be like:

"um i took it using my 10 year old nokia phone's camera after a ride last saturday" :roflmao2:

I personally use my trusty Lumix GF-1 with a 20mm pancake. I live in Brooklyn so usually the best place to get a shot is at a handball court during an overcast day... but luckily I have a *garage now so it works out great.

*brooklyn garages are small. so small in fact that I have to have any passengers get out before parking the car. then I drive in with 2inches of clearance to the right side so I can open my door "safely" (still won't open all the way but it will open enough to avoid door damage ;)).

Hot !!

rccardr, judging from these pictures, and level of detail on the bikes, I think I almost bought a bike you listed on CraigsList this past spring...but if you're not in NOVA and don't CL then I could be wrong :D

lol, yeah, I'm not trying to make a living of shooting my bike :) Don't mind sharing -- the nokia thing would be funny though.

I did love the Bridgestone. My next bike was a Ritchey Road Logic, which I thought of as a nicer version of an RB-1. Good times.

Cool on the Lumix -- those are great cameras

This is so close to perfect for me. All it needs is a rewrap of the tape with the levers slid up so the tips are inline with the flats of drops.

Panasonic DX4000 is Hot. Great frame, great build. Had a Panasonic as a kid and would love to find one in my size now.

Excellent!!! I think we have a new standard on how to shoot in the hot r not thread. I say, Every picture submitted MUST be shot like this to qualify from now on!!!!!!

Steaming hot!

If we're talking about the bike it's ok...re: the photography it's nice if you want to create a nice scene/mood but sort of silly with grass + wood fence that does nothing to enhance the actual subject. Overall, not.

You're out of your mind. The quality of the photo...i.e. set up, scenery, background and staging is all a part of making the bike a hot or not. The bike itself may not do it for you. That's one thing, but I argue that the photo quality and effort that went I to it does in fact help bring out the qualities and appeal of not just that bike but would do the same with any bike. If that bike was taken in poor lighting with a cell phone and garbage, gym bag and TV in the background it wouldn't look half as appealing.

waterrockets 08-24-12 09:34 PM

Thanks for the complements. Over at POTN (think BF for Canon shooters), the technique landed a bit of attention and an imitator. Very flattered, as I just kind of stumbled on the idea with my limited lighting equipment.

Sorry, the background is ridiculous with that lighting. You want to create an effect? Great. Mood lighting on a lawn isn't it. Lol.

FWIW, that very spot is where the sweat and puke dry on my bike. As the sun sets, the day ends, and the rides are over.

c0lnago 08-24-12 09:47 PM

Noted.
