I disagree. The tires look perfect.

I agree with your disagreement.....

The tires add a lot of personality. It would just be another ho-hum black and white bike without them.

I don't like them on every bike but I think they definitely work on this one.

+1 on the gumwalls

on a black bike/black decals/black cables etc....with gumwalls as only non black color....might look really good

FPSDavid 03-13-13 01:59 PM

Personally, I'm not a fan of the gumwalls there. Looks just bad to me, would be much improved w/ black tires.

My "new-to-me" 2003 Litespeed Arenberg. Yeah, it's a triple; not very sexy, but I'll eventually upgrade the groupset. So far I've made the following additions:

USE Alien Carbon seatpost
Specialized Toupe saddle
Zipp TB SL handlebars
Zipp Service Course SL stem
Reynolds Ouzo Pro fork
Sram S60 Wheelset
Blackburn Camber cages
Speedplay Light Action

Jaymadd 03-13-13 02:07 PM

Hot even with the triple. Smoking hot with a standard double though.

MajorMantra 03-13-13 02:24 PM

Not always a fan of gumwalls but they work for me on the Evo. Hot.

It's not that I don't like gum wall tires, I perfer them more on a retro type bike. They just look out of place on the EVO, like white walls on a 2013 corvette.

gadabout007 03-13-13 02:58 PM

I think that maybe the shortest stem I've seen on a road bike. 50mm?

Close, but the stem is 70mm. I blame my tyrannosaurus rex arms.

I kind of agree, although I'm thinking they'd look good on an otherwise stealth black bike...and generally I think this Cannondale is pretty hot

Andy STi 03-13-13 08:39 PM

Found an old pic of my winter trainer from the late '80s. Super hot in an old school hard core kinda way. Cinelli 1R stem and 66 bars, Dia-comp levers and an Avocet computer - Killer!!!

I can understand the comparison. Well said. I have a set of Bullet Ultras with black walls and to me the bike looks plain after the gum walls.

And remember, Spartacus is never wrong...

you can get newer brifter friendly short reach bars. it looks like you have some old school bars with 100mm+reach. ritchey makes their (curve line) that has 73mm reach and a flat transition to the hoods. With the shorter reach on the bars you can go with a 90mm or even a 100mm stem and bring out more sechsyness.
