I don't like the gold. It feels overpowering. How about black hubs and silver spokes or all black with gold nipples?

silver....with silver spokes...classic

If the above are the two options (without getting in to spokes/nipples variations), I'd go with the gold.

Did you try pewter? I may also second the silver/polished option....

I did try the pewter, but I saw a pewter Chris king hub in person and it has a very small tint of purple to it which i didn't like.

I like the gold then IF you had some other small gold bits on the bike such as cable ends and maybe a top cap.....etc....
