[QUOTE=gc3;15845096]Parlee update - you decide which you like better:
...ditched all the blue accents and the dark black felt bar tape...switched to gumwalls....flattened the transition to the hoods.... http://gc3.smugmug.com/Other/Bikes/i...18-copy-XL.jpg Gumwalls get my vote, bikes hot. |
I made a few changes to my Neilpryde Bura sl. Ritchey handlebars are replaced by zipp sl carbon (I needed a bit more reach and these are 27g lighter - bonus).
Also ditched traditional handlebar tape and started using 3M friction tape, available at home depot for $3 a roll. Love this stuff - leaves no residue when you take it off and it's about 22g to do both sides (takes 2 rolls, but at $3 each, who cares and you'll have leftover). You don't need extra tape to hold down cables being routed underneath either. Went from kcnc cb1's to eebrakes. A bit heavier, but I'll take it. Also switched to powercordz for brakes and derailleurs. The wheels on there now are farsport 38mm clinchers built up w/ cx-rays & extralite hubs. 1174g for clinchers. These are about 200g heavier than my tubular set, more when you include the tire setup. Other than that things are the same. The bike weighs about 11.9 lbs as pictured (INCLUDING my garmin 800 that I forgot to put on before taking the pic. With the tubulars on it comes in around 11.3 lbs. Since I got the bike I've dropped 8-10 lbs off my body, let's just say I'm really enjoying climbing right now. http://s20.postimg.org/6geuqxowt/np_july_13.jpg image upload no limit |
Jeebus! 11.3lbs....I hate you and admire you at the same time.

Madone not. Restage pic and it may be warm.

Madone is a NOT.

What say thread? Decided to make this old bike I've had lying around this season's primary ride. (if the picture has red ano skewers, I've already swapped them out for some 6600 skewers for the time being).

ooooh ooooooh i know this one, i know this one!!!!!! http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u...ey_Excited.gif For 1, the majority of treks are ugly to A LOT of people. BUT specifically: -Bike is turned on the wrong side for a submission in this thread -Chain on small front chainring -Crank arms not staged -Too much white -Colored tires generally look stupid (your bike, case and point) -bars tilted up to much -Tall spacer stack -Stubby stem -Stem angle has too much degree -Wheels are to be staged with stems at bottom center We look for bikes to be properly staged to help show off every part of the bike. They aren't a "must", but having the bike staged properly is just more pleasing to look at. Some of the "rules" are not what makes your bike a Not (To me), such as wheels staged, crank arms at bottom center...etc.. Your bike is simply not aesthetically pleasing to look at. It isn't UGLY by any means, but its not a bike I would stop to look at (with admiration anyway). IF I were to change some things to make this bike hot (again, for me) I would stop trying to throw in too much white. Sometimes (most the time) less is more and less is more appealing. Black pedals Black tires Black saddle Black bar tape Rotate bars down For vanity purposes, flip stem and drop 20mm of the spacer stack |
So I ended up slamming my stem and I actually find it much more comfortable than it was before. I picked up a Thomson X2 stem and was debating on replacing my 3T Arx Pro. (for reference, here is my original submission: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...=#post15818084)
http://i.imgur.com/qSQKYYth.jpg http://i.imgur.com/q8JyXAch.jpg http://i.imgur.com/XZ01dmTh.jpg http://i.imgur.com/taMiM6ah.jpg And yes, I am aware that the spacers aren't correct with the Thomson stem and the fork is going to be chopped in the near future. Thomson is a 10 degree stem and 3T a 6 degree....I'm thinking the Thomson looks a little nicer since it's level but the 3T matches the color scheme. What do you guys think? Also, thoughts on the dustcap? Too big or acceptable? |
^^^ 3T is better on your ride. Nobody notices the dustcap...well maybe Bianchi10.....
