Luvin the "pornstache"!
I was planning to try with my red Allez, but its too modern looking.
I got the white bar tape with black saddle, even went with an older Ultegra crankset to get it to look closer.

Very nice - nice mix of new (but not busy) bits to go with the vintage.

Very hot, but I'm not digging the red brakes. I vote either 7402 calipers or a boutique set it black or silver. Ee brakes would be rediculous in a good way.

The DeRosa - ditch the computer, swap that cage for a stainless one, then hot. Very nice drilled and super record parts.

Ironically I just switched out the brakes from 7402s... I had these laying around from another build and I figured why not, but I'll keep em until I build up another bike.

Braking will always be better from the drops, and you should always be in the drops when braking performance and better control in general are required. That being said, I find it helps a lot with brake feel from the hoods when the brakes are set up looser/more open, so that the levers have some travel before the pads contact the rims (obviously, don't loosen them so much that the levers can actually contact the bar). Depending on how your brakes are set up right now, it might help and it costs nothing to try.

A prime example of you don't have to slap a deep dish wheel to make a bike hot. I think lot's of people can get away with an ugly set up by just slapping on some 50mm carbons.

2014 Specialized Allez, size 52
Sram Red 10/Quarq
KCNC brakes
Reynolds 66 tubular/continental sprinter

wheels/quarq/stem/handlebar/brakes already owned or used on a previous bike
shifter/FD/RD are new, but had been purchased long before i bought this frame.

original plan was just to upgrade my 2002 Giant TCR alu frame to SRAM red (its my crit bike). but this frame is only $880 and it has the same geometry as my tarmac. So now this is my race bike. I will cut the top of the steerer once the fit is confirmed. I'm turning my TCR into full-on commuter/rain bike/travel bike.

blue brakes/pink cables. yes i did this on purpose.

save10,
You're Allez is ridiculously hot. That wacky color scheme works in a psychedelic sort of way.
