Wow, this is the first time I've ever had a bike that garnered any positive feedback on BF. Thank you folks. I'm glad you approve. It is pretty much a dream bike for me.

Don't be surprised. Everything just flows on this build, looks great and can't go wrong with a Campy drivetrain.
HOT.

For your consideration:
2014 Specialized Venge Expert Ultegra w/ Roval CLX 60's wrapped in GP4000S
Replaces my 2008 Madone which has a cracked seat tube

Hot!

Nice build. But I would swap the rings for some Ultegra, or even the whole chainset for Ultegra. And speaking of rings, it would look a tad bit hotter if you had staged the chain on the Big Ring. And, maybe shorten the RD cable a wee bit.;)

Not true at all but wow what a great looking bike. Please take off that bag and take a few more pics. Thx!

Staging is all in the details.

Ahh all the details! I'll have to remember these tips for my next bike!

As for the crankset to Ultegra, I don't think Shimano is compatible with the BB30...

There are a handful of adapters out there that'll let you use Shimano cranks with BB30 :thumb:

sorry, but I'm not gonna ride with all those tools in my back pockets. Even with that toolbag my pockets are full with cO2 pump, hanky, phone, food and whatever else. I am always prepared. I'm the guy that unprepared guys borrow stuff from.

Yup I have too much stuff for my pockets and not sacrificing a bottle cage to fill an empty bottle with tools. I bring more water than I need for my rides, fill one with water and another with Gatorade (sugar, electrolytes, cheap). 2 tubes, 3 CO2 cartridges, multi-tool, SRAM quick link, chain tool, patch kit and tire levers. I've had to use all of 'em so far already (replaced obviously).
- KMC quick link failed, it broke, no idea why or how, I'm not that strong of a rider. SRAM quick link worked perfectly.
- Patch kit worked for a tube.
- Then another tube, for some reason where I commute, someone had broken glass and one night didn't notice, paying attention.
- Multi-tool to adjust my saddle etc.

Love having this kit. It's ugly and cumbersome but it's been useful.

RB1-luvr 05-06-14 02:24 PM

^^ yup. Been doing this for 30 years, wouldn't dream of not having a tool bag under the seat. Ugly as it is. It's my truth.

Yes, George Hancock please check THE RULES. Bicycles should always be photographed with the chain on the big dog. This bike looks unattractively cross chained. Also cranks look better in a diagonal position, not level like this. And yep, that RD cable is too long. The background isn't great either.

I judge the saddle bag in this thread, since it's strictly about aesthetics, but I definitely see its utility. I usually use one on centuries and just stuff my pockets during normal rides.

Funny... it's an entirely stock bike with deep carbons on it and it gets hots....

go figure

Me too. But if you're going to photograph your bike for posting esp. hot-r-not, take off the saddle bag, put the chain on the big dog, consider crank placement and background. It doesn't take long.

I wasn't going to say anything...but agreed. Very nice bike without a doubt, but most of the great bikes in this thread have character that comes from being custom built.

OK Super Moderator, I take your point, though I doubt I'm alone in my opinion. Take a look at any photos of bikes advertised brochures etc and I'm sure most will have the chain on the big ring and cranks not at 180 degrees. C'mon what honestly looks better to you: a pic showing the money side with the chain on the big ring so the rear derailleur is extended more-or-less downwards, or the chain hiding on the small ring and, especially if cross chained, the derailleur all crunched up on itself behind the axle? I'd post two pics side by side, but I think you see my point. It takes very little time to set it up right.

The Velominati, who granted are ridiculously OCD about bikes, even codified it in a rule:
Rule #26 // Make your bike photogenic.

When photographing your bike, gussy her up properly for the camera. Some parameters are firm: valve stems at 6 o’clock. Cranks never at 90 or 180 degrees. Others are at your discretion, though the accepted practices are include putting the chain on the big dog, and no bidons in the cages.

MagicHour 05-06-14 06:19 PM

Me too - shorter rides maybe I'll carry a tube and mini tool in my Jersey, but long rides away from home gotta go seat bag, use the jersey pockets for food, cellphone etc.. Gotta get the GEAR! :)

Who the frack cares if someone physically types "IN MY OPINION". When someone posts a hot or not and chooses to give the reasons why, that is their opinion. Nobody here is speaking on behalf of anyone else, including myself.

If Niloc finds bikes to only be appealing if they meet a particular criteria than who are you or anyone else to say otherwise?

If bigfred says he doesn't like bikes that have the color blue in them regardless of how well they are staged, than that's his opinion. If you disagree, then you disagree.

Some people appreciate seeing the details, some do not care. I say Moderate what needs to be moderated.

But then again, "That's just my opinion".

Niloc 05-06-14 06:58 PM

Thank you wise King Hoternot.

Dogma has no place in this thread. I'm just making sure that's a known fact. All the silly rules are just that - silly! You might have a different opinion, but no big deal, everybody has an opinion . . . that's why they're only worth 2 cents.

And to quote the velomanati like it's a serious thing??? It's a joke! It's satire! It's internet humor!
