Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I give that one an hot, but I'm a huge Altamira fan. I haven't owned a lot of road bikes (mountain biker for a long time) but the altamira is the best one I've owned. Not the lightest around at 17-4 ready to ride with cages and pedals but god it's a great riding bike. I'll post pictures of mine at some point.

I call fake on the trek with the extremely tall seatpost. Either that is a 49cm frame with a 6'7 person or they pull the seat up extremely high.

You'd be very wrong - it's a 56cm frame with a drop of 16cm after I took out of bottom spacer this past weekend and fits me just perfectly. Just because it probably doesn't work for you doesn't mean other can't ride with that kind of drop ... and ride comfortably as well. I'm 6ft tall with a good amount of reach not 6'7''.

If you've followed my pictures showing the evolution of this bike you'd see that the saddle height is pretty much the one thing that's remained constant.

It is a really nice Trek. Not that I doubt you, and really just out of interest I'd like to see a picture of you riding it in the drops. You must have Treebeard arms to be able to ride in the drops with a level back and level forearms. I just can't visualize it.

It's really not that much drop when you visualize a level top tube.

I wish I had photos of me riding my bike to look at even for vanity purposes trust me but the people are ride with aren't "cool" like that - I've never seen anyone photographing anything on any ride I've been on. Have you ever read https://www.bikeforums.net/road-cycli...-yell-you.html - it's kinda like that sometimes but I'm not complaining about them, actually I love it when I ride with them because they're all faster and better riders than me so while I'm focusing on not getting dropped often happens I try learn a thing or two every ride I go on.

Also I choose not to race for certain reasons even though I could race so there aren't any race photos of my on my bike although I have seen people photograph me countless times on a rides and I know they were photographing me because I see their lens follow me even after I've passed - never knew what that's about.

Trust me I can't wait for a good photo to add to that You on Your Bike Thread....

Adam Hansen is also 6ft tall and I think he rides with a 17cm drop. I ride with 16cm so it's as close as I could find quickly searching stuff and from the odd reflection I see of myself it's relatively the same posture...

Here is his bike ... looks extreme right.

Here is is on said bike

That's the thing it looks a lot more extreme than it actually really is. With some reach and bend it's actually really doable.
I was just talking to another member about how from doing boxing I found out I have longer than usual arms so reach isn't an issue that's the stem part. The saddle height gives me the level of bend in my knees that keeps me comfortable. Together I end up with what you see there.

Yup I think that's what makes it look so exaggerated, it's only like 16cm saddle to bar drop.

H2 by default when I bought it, got it as close to H1 as possible with the configuration you see there.

Here are my two entries for the day.

Up first is my 2015 Altamira 2.0, Carbon bars and post, 11 speed Ultegra groupset minus the crank (I'm getting one), Hutchinson Fusion 3's and light weight tubes. Weighs 17-4 with carbon pedals and cages.

This is my 2012 Diamonback Podium 5. Mavi Ksyruim wheels, Continental tires with lightweight tubes, 105 10 speed groupset minus crank (may or may not get one) and carbon pedals. 18-0 ready to ride. Very comfortable bike.

You could probably shave 1/2 pound by replacing those oval wheels. I remember mine were practically boat anchors.

Both bikes look good. Now quit cross chaining them!

Dangit hahaha, I had just flipped them back over from cleaning them up and making some small adjustments on the Rd's to keep them smooth and didn't think to set them back in the center for pictures.

As far as the oval wheels, I'll probably replace them eventually. My first Fuji had 327's and they were over 2000g with skewers. The Altamira came with 527's and they're still heavy at 1720 but not AS bad so I'll wait a little while. I'm in pretty good shape but not near good enough to justify trying to save 300 grams to make me faster at this point. Right now I'm what holds them back by a long ways.

The fact the fact that it's doable, comfortable, or practical for someone or a few people doesn't make it any less extreme. It's extreme because most bikes aren't set up that way and few or none have more of a drop. Now, when it comes to hotness or notness, I'll grant that this extreme setup is more hot if it works (it may be extremely nice), and not if it doesn't (extremely offensive), but an observer has to be able to imagine whether it works in order to make a judgement, so your demonstration is helpful.

My new 2015 Lynskey R240 before and after pics. Sram Red 22 groupset, ENVE cockpit, and Boyd wheelset, which I took off my old bike. Dropped two pounds to 16lbs with the bottle cages, but without the clam. I removed the wheel decals, and applied gloss black decals to the fork, to match the stem and handlebars. I've only had the bike a very short time, so I am not sure where I want the stem yet, hence the periscope.

Good looking Lynskey, in both variations.

I got my new wheels yesterday, so I guess it's time to post mine again...

Totally understand. Good point all around. Funny how people seem to find the geometry as hot even though it's basically the only thing I didn't do when trying to beautify the bike up. Spent time on carbon bottle cages, carbon seatpost, carbon wheels, titanium QR's, rare bar tape, new saddle etc etc etc and all most people notice is the drop hahahahah too funny.

Second page, post #27 ...I posted it and no one could figure out what I was "what the hell"-ing.

I mean, it is a lot, but after watching more and more races this year, it seems to be the norm for bikes with sloping top tubes.

That's so funny to read. They commented on EVERYTHING but the drop until you pointed it out.... and even after that it was mostly like 'oh yeah, people do that now'.

Hahaha, I know! In this forum there would have been a 5 page discussion about the guy's fit. Over there, no big deal.

Alright, so far I've been too lazy to post anything on this thread, but decided to do it with my new bike.

Yes!

But what's the wire going over the handlebars?
