Since I'm new to cycling, I gotta ask.. I half expected this to be the response from the majority, what makes it cringe worthy?

Nice username. I had a 93 Si 4WS, 97 SH and 98 SH.

Gumwall tires, seatpost, all the excess bags on it, bar angle, front rack, bottle cages, bottles. Remove all of that stuff, would look much better. Oh, and the bike is completely in the wrong gear. You never take a picture while it is cross chained. Pretty much everything about this bike is wrong for this thread.

Listen. I tour. In fact, I leave tomorrow for an eleven day tour. I don't think I could ever consider a loaded down bike as "hot." And, as mentioned, those sidewalls are ugly. For this thread, it's cringe-worthy. Post it in Touring and it would probably elicit praise from some, but not a "hot."

Fair enough. I like gumwall tires but agree that's a bit much.

MadDog1999 06-13-16 12:35 PM

I definitely couldn't consider this bike hot. But it is probably for touring so ya I see why it is like that but it would be much nicer without all the bags.

SpeshulEd 06-13-16 04:04 PM

Typically in this thread, you want to strip your bike so everyone can see the frame and components.

I dig bikepacking tho, so I can appreciate the way a bike looks loaded up, ready for an excursion.

Still not a fan of the chainrings and seatpost however...the bike with the gumwalls and touring gear looks good tho.

Slybry 06-14-16 01:50 PM

...I like it, not race road bike hot, but otherwise for what it is I would say hot. It is showing it in it's cleanest best looking form and I would definitely take another look when passing it on the street.

The turkey neck seatpost and spacers/upright stem just make it unenjoyable for me. A butterface. :(

Without the bags it's not hot, but with the bags it's actually pretty fetching... Sometimes the appropriate dresswear can do wonders. :thumb:

Hey, those brake levers are beautiful! Maybe a bit less out-of-place on a period-correct bike but still beautiful...

That's a strong reaction. It seems like it got under your skin and made you question what you think of as hot. It's natural to have questions surface that you may feel the need to stamp down.

Playing with a new camera so my first instinct was to try shooting my bike... Bit better than my iPhone lol. Also new carbon cages and a slammed stem. (I'll cut the remaining steer tube next week or whenever I get to it)

something looks funny when the bar drops are even with the top of the tire.

Short head tube + integrated bearing cover + negative 10* stem does that...

Shooting bikes can be difficult to find the right angle to shoot at to highlight all its attributes properly. To me, this photo would have turned out better if you/the camera was lower and more profile. Shooting a bike above the top bar can tend to give the bars an odd appearance, as will shooting too low looking up.

Good looking bike though. I'll give it a Hot

I think that might be the camera angle.

Shooting the bike from a lower angle like was mentioned previous should fix that issue, I believe.

Side note: I dig the bike!

Hot.
Despite comments about the bars visual proximity to the wheel, I actually prefer this slightly elevated, naturalistic perspective to the clinical, straight-on view you often see. It's perfectly understandable. In fact, I think it would look VERY odd if the bars didn't have enough drop to come down at least that low.
