Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Anybody hear the Jack Bruce album "Songs for a Taylor"?
"Pressed Rat....." is my absolute favorite Cream tune. As far as Jack Bruce goes, the double disc he did in Germany with Simon Phillips and Gary Moore is the smokenest **** around. Was it called "Golden Years?" or maybe "Deserted Cities" or something.

I don't know about that double disc, but there was a tune on 'Songs for a Taylor' called 'Deserted Cities of the Heart', I think. Great song.
Oh yeah, I always liked "I'm so glad' from 'Fresh Cream'.

The disc I was trying to remember was "Cities of the Heart." I have listened to everything, and that is the best. I believe Ginger plays drums on Sunshine Of Your Love. This has got to be what you define Bruce's talent with. I, personally, have never heard a better collection of musicians and a better collaboration of music ever. This is the definition of what Cream could have been and the ultimate band that anyone would ever consider Jack to have been a member of. You're looking at Gary Moore ( Thin Lizzy,) Simon Phillips (Everyone on the planet,) Pete Brown (original compositor with Jack and Eric in Cream, Dick Heckstall Smith [Yardbirds] and they even cover the Graham Bond tunes) ****, is there more that you need? "Golden Days" is the most ash producing tune you will ever listen to. If you are not reduced to ashes, go home. (I just ordered it from Amazon as I write this. I forgot all about that set. I can't wait.)

Ok, I'm done. Thank you for your attention. I'll close the door when the music gives way to applause.

P.S. "Cities" was on WOF. The best production ever from Cream and Polydor. (or was it Podolor. 'Been a lot of years.?.?.?. I got it for Christmas in the US in 1968, along with In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida and the White album. What a smokin' Christmas. I think Jimi, "Are You Experienced" also. "Deserted Cities Of The Heart" came from "Wheels Of Fire" officially, but I'm sure it was composed by Jack way, way, way before then.)

You're right, I thought about it last night and remembered Clapton was on that song, so it was on WOF. Speaking of Jack, how about "As you said"? Is that a cello on that song? I didn't have 'In-a-gadda', but I did have 'Ball'. I remember I walked miles to get a copy of 'Electric Ladyland' and when i got it home, it skipped, and I had to take it back.

It is a cello, and an awesome tune, too. "Passing The Time" is another sweet tune.

There is nothing like Robert Randolph playing classic Zeppelin songs. His own work is pretty amazing too.

Let's not forget that we have greats like Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes out there. As others have noted, guitar rock is alive and well. Radio is dead.

exactly...99.99999999% of the stuff back then was crap...and 99.99999999% of the stuff now is crap. cream was brilliant and survived time. a small number of bands from the here and now will be revered in 40-50 years as well.

The editor of Galaxy magazine back in the 40's and 50's is famous for having said "90% of everything is crap." Probably true. and if you look back at the top 10 lists (or beyond) from many of those eras you will find them splattered with crap tunes.
"afternoon delight" anyone? "yummy yummy yummy"? "she's having my baby" (just typing that one out made me urp a little in my mouth).
+infinity to SWLABR. PErhaps my favorite off of Gears.

"We're Going Wrong," "Take It Back," and of course "Mother's Lament." But then, there isn't a bad tune on that piece. "Blue Condition" is cool, too. 'Written and sang by Ginger Baker.

A bit of trivia. There was a collection released maybe ten years ago of Cream material. It was titled "Those Were The Days." OK, the trivia. The liner notes talk about Clapton and his displeasure with the trad arrangement of Lawdy Mama. So he says to Pete Brown, "Take this home and fix it." Pete brings it back to the studio the next session (next day.) Low and behold, he had twisted it into "Strange Brew," 'first tune on 'DG.' The "Days" collection also has a take of Cream working out Lawdy Mama on it. The notes also straighten out the origin of the material on the live stuff on Wheels. I haven't seen the set in a long time. 'Can't remember where it went.

Oh yeah, "Those Were The Days" was released in 1997.
Here's the wiki info.
