Cervelo
I'm perfectly happy with my Trek 2.1, but I did some research on Cervelo and I like what they are all about. Does a Cervelo bike have a different feel in riding compared to other bikes? Sound like their philosophy is a little different than other companies.
How much would a base model Cervelo set me back? How do you actually pronounce the name of the bike anyways?

Great bikes but they're quite expensive especially the carbon models, but if you like aluminum the Soloist Team goes for about $2,000 and the 08s came with Ultegra/105 mix though I'm not sure about this year's specs so check their site. I test rode the Team alu. and liked it, as it had a lot of pep and was pretty stiff so accelerating was fun.

I ordered a Cervelo S2. I mean, what more do you need to know?
Hey, is this the kind of snippy Road Nazi response to a newbie that they're all wringing their hands over above? News flash: it's a reasonable re-creation of what newbies get from roadies in the real world in my considerable experience. Everybody here should HTFU, LTFU and STFU.
Welcome to BF. It's a tough room kid. Let's hope it stays that way. They are trying to turn this into some ******** friggin Kum Bay Ya Wussyfest even as we speak.

It's pronounced "sir-VELL-oh" according to their ads.
Edit: I wouldn't say that all Cervelos have a characteristically different feel to them than any other bike. The Soloist Team is very stiff and feels much more precise in my opinion than the comparably priced carbon bikes in that price range (Specialized Roubaix being the one I test rode right before it). My only real gripe is that the FSA bottom bracket and crankset are very difficult to get properly tightened for some reason.

So Cervelo rhymes with Jello. I guess I should figure that out before I take delivery on mine, eh? (it is a Canadian bike, eh?).

- That there are less expensive bikes to be had that are just as enjoyable to ride.
- If everyone HTFU, LTFU AND STFU you'd have little to do in this place, don't bite the hand that strokes your ego.
- Being relatively polite does NOT mean you're a wussy, and being an internet bully isn't that funny. You're somewhat amusing in a court jester kind of way so I think you're safe.

Intrepid trendsetter that you are, I bet if you start calling it a "sir-VAY-loh," you'll have everyone at the dealer you buy it from pronouncing it that way before the fit session is over.

Absolutely LOVE my Cervelo Dual. I converted it from a tri-bike into a road bike. I'll probably be getting an S1 when they come available. It has a very solid feel and corners like it's on rails.

Don't get me wrong here, I plan on buying a cervelo in a couple of weeks, but I won't be able to force myself to say, "ah Buffy, look at my "sir-VELL-oh."

See this old thread on how to pronounce it: https://www.bikeforums.net/road-cycling/62645-how-heck-do-you-pronounce-cervelo.html
The link to the article on their site no longer works though.

Not true. The 2008 Soloist Team comes with all Ultegra with the exception of the crank which is FSA Gossamer MegaExo.
To the OP:
I switched from a 2002 Trek 1000 to the 2008 Soloist Team and noticed a difference in handling (and obviously shifting). The bike feels lighter and more responsive. The reason I looked Cervelo over Trek when upgrading was I got a better bike at $2k from Cervelo than I would have from Trek.
