Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sidis get stupid expensive, and it's a problem...

For the company. I was talking to a riding pal of ours who is the local Sidi rep, and he says the ever escalating price of Sidi shoes (my favorite) has gotten so stupid (the top of the line shoes are now $550 in the U.S.) that the U.S. distributor is afraid it's going to cost them sales. So is he. Apparently Sidi bought Euros @ $1.55 or something as a hedge months ago. Bad move, the Euro is much weaker now.

F'em. I love Sidis, but they are too friggin pricey now. I have three pairs. I'd probably still buy them by stalking PBK and other places for deals, but most bike weenies simply waltz into the LBS and ask 'how much are these?' When they hear '$549' hopefully they'll buy something else and Sidi will BTFO (Back the F Off) on their stupid prices. You will never convince me these guys can't make money selling those $549 shoes for $399 or less. Give me a break.

Oh yes, in another inexplicable move, Sidi continues to market those electronic Toasters insole foot warmers, even though they flat out don't work. Apparently the charging mechanism keeps breaking (I gave up on them last year after three pairs and got a refund) and they don't know how to fix it. My rep pal says he has a stack of a dozen returns on his desk right now. But Sidi continues to ship and market this badly flawed product.

Go figure. If they could ever get those Toasters to work it would be the best thing since canned beer.

the only bike weenies who walk into a LBS and buy a pair of ergo 2s for $550 are noobs with more money than sense.

just a few weeks ago you could have picked up a pair of ergo 2s for $220 on pbk. granted, that's still a ridiculous amount of cash for shoes.

the 2009 models aren't drastically different than all the '08 stuff.

edit: i've actually seen the new ergo 2's in person, and man are they sweeeet.

I'll confident the majority of Sidi sales come from those customers b.

This pricing will hurt them.

In the meantime, I'm all set on Sidis through at least next season.

$550 for cycling shoes doesn't even come close to making sense.

Neither do $6-$7K bicycles. What's your point?

If that's the case then why even bother buying sidis. Just go straight for semi-custom like rocket racing 7s.

My kid got a pair of Sidi's that fit her perfectly as trade from a friend who went back to platforms. I got him a $40 helmet for free and I tuned up his bike (all he needed for parts was tubes). The bike has been here for at least a month now.

There's a point, but you'd have to shave p-cad's head to find it.

He's been visiting the Hair Club. That's why his funds are too low for the $550 Sidi's.

I hope my Sidi shoes last a while then because there is no way I'd pay that much for shoes, comfort is one thing but I'm sure there are plenty of alternatives. I'd probably resort to searching for the deals because the LBS will look to charge an arm and a leg. I have a lower end pair which will hopefully last long enough to see this price increase through.

That figures: The *one* shoe I want (winter) isn't on sale.
