Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

If you live near Sacramento haven't they repossessed your house yet?

Nice work getting the non-complainer to complain. I'm going to try thinking a pair of Ergo 2 show up at my door step tonight, I'll let you know how The Secret theory goes.

Since we're discussing price, how much is a flight to Florence?
btw, if you]re in Florence you could make a short trip to the Prada factory store and get some for 40-50% of retail.

Bikes: Real Steel. Really. Ti is cool, too !

If you look at prices of cycling shoes compared to other sports where shoes are even more vital - like soccer or even running - cycling shoes are way more expensive.

As an example, based on my experience with cycling, when my son started running track and we had to go to speciality store for a pair of spikes, I was thinking $200? $300? No - they were less than $30.

Soccer shoes - you can get a great pair for under a $hundred$. You can get really good ones for $70 bucks.

How about golf cleats? My son's now a scratch golfer. Golf shoes - usually around $60 for the season. And for a good Nike, Adidas, or Foot Joy pair.

But it looks like you can't touch a cycling road cleat shoe for anywhere near these prices. Outrageous.

Considering the fact that a pair of Sidis will last you several years, and a pair of running shoes will last you less than two months, I think calling cycling shoes overpriced is an overstatement.

Oy. I know how you feel. And if you are running Speedplays, yeah, brand new shoes or cleats?

Seriously. My wife buys a new pair of $200 running shoes at least three times a year.

I don't know much about golf or running, but I do buy soccer boots, and I have to disagree. You can get an average pair for $100. If your feet are a weird size, you can sometimes find a good deal on end of season clearance at that price. Handmade leather shoes generally cost more, unfortunately, and a top of the line soccer shoe will cost about the same as your average pair of sidis.

Ouch! My wife bought a pair of Kayanos the other day and at $135 I thought that was bad enough. I'm lucky, I can almost always get a pair of my favorite running shoes on closeout for $70-ish (I wear Asics GT-21XX series..the 2140s are out, but I wear the 2120s right now). $200....Are they New Balance? Brooks?

Economy of scale and simpler materials methinks.

Consider cycling jackets are $500. Don't you think spending as much on shoes makes sense?

Genius 5 on sale $139, Ergo $240-ish.

Compared to a $100-200 rain jacket, doesn't seem so bad.

When I ran at school, we were given new shoes, and threw the old ones out (well, gave them to the trainer to be recycled somewhere) every 6 weeks.

At $80 a pair, that would be (52w/6w)*($80/pair)= $693.33.

The $100 racing shoes, however, could last the entire year, depending on your event(s).

For shoes, Gucci wins over both armani and prada.

I'd say prada makes the ugliest shoes those with money to burn can buy.

Perhaps $200 was an exaggeration but it's close. She wears Asics.
