Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm not sure how much pricing is affecting the brand itself.

You can easily afford Sidi's at a variety of price points, but it seems the argument more leans to "The Sidi's I want are increasing in price and I want those and not the model below that that now occupies my price point."

I'm happy with Adidas, though their operation is now moving to Mavic from what I hear. I'll probably end up buying Mavic's next. To each his own on the shoes.

Only two pairs of Sidis I've had were the original 1990 Genius and the Sidi Revolution (the ones that Fignon used in the 89 Tour). Can't recall what the Genius cost me but I remember that the Revolutions were $140 and my parents thought I was insane for getting such pricey shoes (so did I!!) while a junior in high school. After that, I've pretty much stuck to Specialized until now.

However, at the Veloswap in SF in 2005, the guys from Mike's Bikes had a TON of Sidis for $20 a pair, no matter which model!!! They didn't have any in my size but I ended up buying like 6 pairs for my teammates (it was pretty funny to have me standing there, cell phone in one ear and a pile of Sidis on both hands while calling my teammates and asking them for their shoe size).

But yeah, Some of my teammates were talking the other day about how the Sidis they wanted were such a good deal because they got them on sale at ONLY $350 or something...sheeshh

If you live near Sacramento haven't they repossessed your house yet?
I just got back from a ride. Took my 7 year old out for a 20 mile jaunt. Sidi shoes don't fit me, so I won't be getting any. I'm quite happy with my D2's. And no, they haven't repossessed my house. My house payments get made.

Negative energy? Yeah I suppose. Something about you brings it out of me.

I need to go get started on dinner.

um......Sidi is not a small company......They make top of the line motorcycle boots that are very popular as well...and before ppl make comments on the price of these boots remember that they are designed to protect a guys foot that is going 100+ on pavement(BTW I agree that 500 for a pair of cycling shoes is outrageous)

A buddy of mine is still wearing Genius 2's. They are, he thinks, 12 years old. Wears them every day.

Genuis 6's are IMO better anyway. Same sole as the Ergo without that idiotic fishing line clasp.

At a recently attended MotoGP race, most of the guys were on Sidis and going a whole lot faster than that.

I have a pair of Aerostich Motorcycle Touring Combat boots, they're really Sidis. They were pricey. They are five years old. They are hardly broken in. They will outlast me. Amazing quality.

My cycling shoes are very durable. I wear them a lot. I have three pairs. Amazing quality. I will get my money's worth out of my Sidis.

You'll see.

But go figure on those Sidi Toasters. Say what you will about the shoe pricing, their stuff is super high quality. Why would they risk damaging their A+ image with a flakey product like those foot warmers that refuse to work properly? Very strange indeed.

Not nearly as much as she spends on dressage.

While I cringe at the price of Sidis, I find their Mega line the only models that fit me. An in my experience, I'd rather pay to have comfortable shoes than to go cheap and feel the pain.

Crash and burn, there goes a pair of costly shorts and possibly jersey...I have a collection of blown shorts and jerseys...cost could be couple of hundred dollars depending on maker. Same crash(es) give a scuff here and there on the shoes...still perfectly good but now have a story behind every scuff and scrape that is like a history of your riding.

My Sidi Genius pair of 5 years is still doing fine and I have "rebuilt" it almost twice, new strap mechanisms, new heels, new insoles...

However I discovered that Shimano actually fits me better. The Sidis get a bit irritating at mile 80. Plus the Shimanos have carbon outsoles and I thought they were hype, but they really make a difference. No sore feet even a mile 112. I got 3 Shimanos now, a Tri Shoe, the R215 and the R220 all on sale, 20, 60 and 90 respectively. I should be good to go for a long time.

If well heeled -- of course I'll get Sidis too.

Not nearly as pretty and they aren't Italian.

I have the R220s and a pair of Sidi Dragon 2s, both in white, both very pretty.

The Dragons are Ergo 2s with MTB tread on the bottom. Going on that, I'd take the Sidis in a heart beat, despite the custom molding I had done with the Shimanos.

This year, though, I'm riding the new Bontrager RXLs, in, of course, white.

It took a while for my feet to get used to my Sidi's, way past the point where the prettiness and Italian appeal had worn off, but once the comfort kicked in I was sold.

We should trust Pcad on this issue. If anyone knows something about shoes, he does. He draws them for a living.
