Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The OP in the other thread was most assuredly trolling. How many folks who have no clue about handlebar adjustment know anything about bullhorns?

I didn't think he was trolling. I could be wrong, but he just seemed like he was genuinely so new to this he didn't have a clue.

I know you're trying to be helpful, and you and I are clearly on opposite sides of this one, but really, who is so new that they've never seen a road bike before?

I dunno, maybe I'm just blind...I'm honestly not trying to be combative... maybe the guy who said it's all a result of the BD shills getting our hackles up was right...I know I'm certainly quick to get mad at those...

What I find amazing about this thread is that I think both sides of the argument are honestly just trying to defend what's right. I guess that's how you end up with a nation that votes 50/50.

Siu said it best about 1,000 posts ago.

I just hope that a few mods who sit on the opposite 50% from me can see that there are two sides to this argument and don't turn the forum into a boring encyclopedia of facts with no flavor.

there's a difference between seeing a road bike and really looking at one. I know, because I was once a part of the former.

Not directed toward you but the above statement seems to be an Idea shared among a few posters and it brought to mind a phrase that seemed fitting, "A rat cant smell its own ****".

Aww. Don't fret. Someday you'll see that line that is really pretty obvious to most of us (though it does move now and then). When that happens, you'll no longer be a noob!

The campagnolo/shimano or carbon/steel threads are so much more fun.

Take that as a clear sign that both places tend to be a little inhospitable.

I didn't open up this thread until now. I just want to say that when I first came around BF, I asked a lot of stupid questions and was treated with patience and respect. Seriously. I couldn't even remember how to F-ing put air in a tire! No one condescended to me, just reminded me about the valve thingy. Seems there was more of a spirit of helpfulness on this forum to balance out the elitism and frat house sh-t.

I dunno, don't care really... the Benadryl is kicking in...
