Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wrong. Good shilling has to be stealthy so as not to be too obvious. A link to BD has already posted in the thread, therefore not including it was the right thing to do. Also complaining about the brakes is a nice added touch...a minor complaint makes it seem real.

Moderators, can we put this thread in the BD love/hate folder?

Thanks,

Bikes: LOOK 595 Ultra/Campy Record 10Sp, restored Guerciotti/Campy C-Record 6 Sp, TIME RXR/Campy SR 11Sp, and Colnago C-60 with Campagnolo SR 11sp.

I just wished their site would show what they had in stock vs what they have had. I went to their site to browse and practically everything I clicked on was not in stock anymore. Sort of like PBK........

I have a kilo, brakes cost 34$ extra, not a rip off, i love mine. I beat the crap out of it and it's held up all year. I'm thinking about getting a mountain bike from them. those Motobecane's look nice, they holding up for people out there?

You're right there always has to be a minor complaint that's easily fixed and understandable when you're saving hundreds of a comparable store bought model.

I had no trouble finding what I wanted in my size.

i'm confused, why buy a new fixie for +300 when you can get an 80s bike for under 100 dollars and do a fixie conversion for under 20bucks, then sped 15x the cost of the bike on a complete restoration, urban clothes and pretty paint. if your gonna be a hipster, alteast do it right!

It's been a while since we've seen some real BD shilling (Mongo's shilling doesn't count). Did Mike give up on us?

I'm too old to be a hipster.

It's part outside/errand bike, winter training bike and starter velodrome bike.

I tried that (a cheap conversion)...it usually ends up costing more and can be a big pain in the ass. If I needed a cheap fixie or singlespeed...which I don't...I'd rather just spend the $300 and be done with it.

I just don't now if I should get a hard tail or soft tail...

Any help with the decision would be helpful...

****...
This is the best deal in a hardtail right now as far as inexpensive hardtails go. Shimano Deore componentry. Disc brakes. Huge thread about this on MTBR. Just got one to ride when I can't ride my road bike. A quality FS costs ALOT. Some of these MTB parts (front fork) can cost more than a carbon road frame. It's nuts.

If you order a BD bike though, you support a business that is very slimy. You reward sneaky, shady behavior. You support a business model that is designed to trick the n00b. You encourage Mike to keep doing all that same crapola. But hey, its your money - do what the heck you want.

Also, children will run from you like the Frankenstein monster. Women will scorn you like the Elephant man. Road Nazi's the world over will turn up their noses and scoff at you. And most importantly, I dcbikeguy, will think less of you. If you can live with that, then go for it.

I think you hit reply to the wrong post. My bike isn't a BD bike - although I did compare BD to Forge Bikes which is distributed through Target, which I don't think is all that slimy except for maybe in their cafeteria ice machines but that's not important right now.

I think I can handle it. n00b gets good bike, low price.

I have a Moto Messenger that I love. Also buy a bunch of stuff from BikeIsland. Keep looking at the cross bikes and 29ers. Want.

Wow, that actually looks pretty awesome for the forge.

I might have to sell my raleigh and get one!
I don't really ride MTB all that much, but I probably should do a little more of it.

And that is that Hardtails are lighter and more efficient. Full suspension bikes are good for fast moving over tough terrain. I see your dilemma.
Full suspensions are also better at extremely steep technical climbs, especially with loose or dry conditions. The rear wheel stays on the ground more, preventing spin-outs. On my FS, I can clear things I could only dream of on my old hardtail.

I can also ride much longer over rough terrain. Much more comfortable on the over 2-hour rides.

Dooh...my bad. I was all wrapped up my eminent bashing. I have no issues with the Forge deal. Far from it in fact. As a token of apology, today will officially be declared Forge Day in the DC household. All who enter will declare their love and fealty.

Oh, and BikesDirect blows.
