Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How did the sledding go Gary? Our snow is pretty much gone from all the rain now.
I'm feeling a bit under the weather so I ended up staying in the car. Kids seemed to have fun though. Going to grab some dinner and head to bed. A bit too under it for the interweb. You all can carry this place without me. Enjoy.

Here is that same road in the summer, about 9 miles from the other picture.

^^ Wish I was there now. Looks sweet. I'd probably puke on the way up though.

Nah, puking is over rated. Tomorrow we will be headed for the far point in this pic, about 100 miles round trip, mostly flat with lots of traffic.

I need to learn to climb. Some of these views look awesome and I feel like I'm missing out on some great riding.

So I got some X-Mas money and want to get some new books. I'm already getting A Dog in a Hat, but I'm debating between;
Sex, Lies and Handlebar Tape: The Remarkable Tale of Jacques Antequil
and
Paris Roubaix: A Journey Through Hell

Paris-Roubaix is my favorite race, and Jacques Antequil is one of my favorite riders of all time. I love photography and I love reading about riders of the past. I can't decide which to get.

You just have to go to the hills and do it. Just stay within yourself in the right gear and spin. Takes a little time, but if a fat, old Fred like me can do it....

Why not get them all? Maybe save a little while for the third one?

'Learn to climb'?

Lose weight and ride in the hills often, you'll learn to climb all right.

How does Mt. Doom look these days? Ice and snow-laden, or are you good to go?

Just reading the short description of the Anquetil book makes it seem like it is more of an expose on his private life than about his bike racing.

That's one of the reasons why I want it. It's not like I can just read the same thing on some geocities website.

We're all too fat for this sport. Don't go thinking you're special.

Pcad, I'm a woman...in this sport...I am special. And no, I'm not too fat. If I wanted to race, then perhaps you could argue your case.
