Bikes: More than I need, really.
Nokians rock. I had some Hakka IIs on my car. Best winter tire ever.
Now I have them on my mtb. They're amazing.
And I'll take a BLT.

Reminded me of penguins all huddled together in the background. They really look close from a distance.

That shot with the burbs in the background -- is it taken from the top of the Olympic Games facilities, TJ?
I lived through half a winter in Alberta -- the first time I have ever experienced -40 degrees C, and the first time I have done a century under 0 deg C just about all the way. The first time I have ever seen a frozen waterfall, too!
When I returned to Australia from that trip, I went from around -40 deg to +40 deg when I got off the aircraft in Melbourne. Needless to say, I remained in the airport enjoying the air conditioning for a long time before I braved the heat and wind outside.

This picture is taken approx 20 km north of Canada Olympic Park from the suburb of Panorama Hills. It looks south onto the neighborhoods of Hidden Valley & Edgemont.
Yeah, -40 degrees is not fun especially with the "wind chill" added to that, it can get much colder. I could only imagine what an impression -40 would've left on a Aussie.
However, I'd take a week of -40 over the 4+ weeks of -25 / -30 we had since the end of November. We''ve had a bit of a Chinook since Saturday, hopefully the weather will return to more seasonal temps soon.T.J.

Tried my hand at Grumpy's Potato Bread yesterday. It was fantastic! Big hit at my family gathering. Thanks for sharing Grumpy.

The first time I arrived in Calgary was in late July/early August, IIRC, and it was a real whatyadoinhereboy welcome... ice-cold westerly winds and rain (no quite freezing).
I had just travelled by Greyhound from Vancouver via Kamloops and Banff, had to wait for my bike box to arrive on another bus, then when I got outside, nearly froze my fingers and tootsies off (let alone my butt)!
I was looking for a motel on one of the Parkways, and was cycling in entirely the wrong direction -- with the Olympic Park on my left... I was heading out of town, rather than towards my goal.
A helpful clerk at another motel set me on the right course.
I used to get up to scrape the ice off the windscreen of Machka's car during -10 deg C mornings in winter. I could survive about five minutes in T-shirt and flipflops, just enough time to do the deicing, give her a kiss goodbye as she went off to college, and dash back inside without suffering frostbite or even shivering.

nice job on the bread! Hope there were some leftovers
we are back to winter. Yesterday was a nice break from it and I did an outside ride with a friend. We even had some hammering mixed in there for a bit...
Today, colder, much colder, and high winds again. Seems like high winds are happening more often this winter.

Having a piece with my eggs right now.
It was a nice day around here until about 4:30 in the afternoon when the winds kicked up. Even sent the kids outside to play in the mud.

(see below) From what I recall in Geography class, isn't it summer down under where you are? How can you possibly be snowbound in the middle of Australian summer? So, actually, you don't qualify as a snowbound roadie. That being said, come in and add to the thread instead of criticizing the people that are posting in it.

Rowan is up in your 'parent' state of Canada, I believe.

From my understanding, he only visits Canada from time to time to be with Machka and lives in Australia. Either way, he's being a party-pooper.

Hard to tell from a picture. That is my pizza stone, would guess that it was about the same size as Grumpy's.
