Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Compression Tights

Anyone wear these to help recovery? Do they work for you?

Just wondering, if you wear them, what your experience has been.

Yes and yes. And no, regular tights do not provide the same function, compression garments are designed to change the amount of compression as you head up or down the leg.

I second that. I have been using them for 5 or 6 years now, for various sports and definitely notice a difference.

I have used the "skins" brand and I am more than happy with them. They are a little more expensive here in the US than Australia but I have continued to buy them. As Racer Ex mentioned they differ from regular and even medical tights as they have graduated and localized compression.

At the Green Mountain Stage Race last year I put them on basically straight after the finish of one stage, slept in them, and took them off just before the start of the next days stage. It definitely made a difference. Anecdotally, by the 4th day I was much fresher than I expected and compared to many comparable riders.

All subjective but: my wife just got some and loves them. Lots of people at her Tri group use them for training/competition and for recovery (there are two types of compression wear for these purposes).

I read Zoots science and testing information. Kind of makes sense.

I didn't pay $120 for them, got them from a local store that sponsors our cycling team.

Online:
$109
$81.60
eBay

Along the same lines, does anyone have an opinion on 2XU tights? The shop that sponsors my team (where I get a discount) offers their stuff, and I've thought about giving it a try.

Also, any opinions on whether it's more helpful on the bike, or more for recovery afterward?

I had a friend give me the Pro Deal on the Skins. Just got them today.

I'll give the recovery tights the full rigorous test (which basically means wearing them as I lounge around the house).

Yes! I after a particularly grueling two days of pure quad work in rowing, compressions made walking a lot more comfortable. (I was limping and stumbling walking!) anyways it hurt to have the quads move around so compressions made it more comfortable by holding the muscle in place more.

I haven't used them for pure recovery purposes outside of that workout, but I'm sure they help, just maybe don't have such a noticeable affect.

For what it's worth, I use Under Armour compression shorts.

I have some CW-X tights that I like. I've never used them to lounge around the house, but they're great for skiing - less vibration means less fatigue.

yes, i use 2XU compression tights. for recovery purposes, get one size smaller. i only use 2XU so i don't know how they compare with other brands (Skins, BSC etc).

Without sounding like a Zoot salesman (no interest, just happens to be the one I did the research on) - they make a separate product for activity and recovery.
