Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

shorter stem has the body more upright, also puts less weight on the hands & shoulders.

Shorter = less reach.
There's different angles/degrees (+/-) that would make your posture more or less upright.

Edit: This post # 1000 for me!

Thanks guys. Is 110 mm the standard length of the stem? I'm asking because the Trek website doesn't tell me the length of my stem, though it does say the rise is 10 degrees. I looked at the stem myself, but the length doesn't seem to be written anywhere, either.

Edit: This post # 1000 for me!
Congrats!

Thanks

The length, & angle is more for fit, & comfort.
You can find this out when you get a bike fit done.
IMO there's no standard size.

Spending remorse is kicking in.

DA 9000 groupo ordered from the LBS on Sat and November Rail 52's were ordered on thursday or friday and shipped immediately. All that is left on my build now is handlebar/stem, saddle and pedals to complete this build... Can't wait for it to be done with.

Treks are fed bikes and only Chris Froome can look at stem.

Just saw this in the Hot Deals thread and decided to pick one up, have been looking for a 6° 100mm stem to replace my current 17° stem for awhile now.

Well maybe I _am_ an idiot for not understanding it. It didn't even occur to me that it was a typo. What was it supposed to be?

I guess I'm an idiot too I didn't get the typo, & didn't know that Trek made Defy's now.

I must be a "Giant fed" on my Defy too.

Aw man, they're out of stock (website said in stock) and had to cancel my order.

Would have liked to have a nice 3T stem for little money, but looks like I'll still have to go Bontrager, so I'll likely order the 7° version of the one I have now (17° version).

Wish I would have known! i just sold one for a friend for $35 shipped and was nearly new. But, I'm not on the upgraded membership which allows me to post in the classifieds here.
