Getting these Williams 38 carbon clinchers for the new bike. The wheels will be here tomorrow and hopefully the bike this week( been a 4 week wait so far on the bike)

ok, say it how you will then. Maybe I couldn't tell the braking POWER, but the overall feel was similar as long as I had them adjusted close to the braking surface. any difference or lack of was completely worth the weight savings for me.

That's cool, everyone is different. I personally am not willing to compromise function for weight anywhere on my bikes and especially when it comes to my brakes.

I have different brakes on all of my bikes...I honestly can't say any are better at stopping my bike than the other. Hmm, now I need to go do some testing.

I don't care about the weight. I like the design, they weren't way more expensive than the Campy brakes I was considering, and folks that have them say good things about them.

Its not really a compromise the work great, on par with a set of 105 5700 brakes I had and really work well. And the fact that they really look good is a plus. Had I not switched over to Ultegra on my aluminum bike, I would still have them. I went through a everything must go with the theme phase and for no real good reason replaced them. I did not like the plastic nut provided to mount them to the frame and fork but other than that a great brake set for sure.

I like the 105 brakes a lot more than the Tektro brakes that I had. But could be Tetro brake pads are worthless compared to the Shimano pads.


The claim is that you shove the fin into your ass and it keeps you straighter on the saddle. I'd rather something a little misaligned than having that up my ass. It's been sent to UCI for approval, would love to see it in TdF.

There are much better places to cut weight on a bike than the brakes.

Dumping those carbon wheels would drop even more weight, and improve your braking.

I am only joking around, but saving weight at the expense of braking is a choice I'll never make.

Honestly I don't see how you can sleep at night, knowing you could drop almost 300g by dumping those boat anchors that you call a "wheelset".

Yeah but, as far as I can tell, you're operating under one of two assumptions: 1) when it comes to braking, more is always better or 2) the performance of this specific brake set doesn't reach the point where anything better is irrelevant. I don't think that either of those is a safe assumption, so who am I to criticize other for their choice?

If these work as well as my Zero Gravity brakes worked on my old TT bike, there's not a chance in hell that I'd use them.
