Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Gatorskins for my CAAD 10 to replace the horrible schwalbe tires that came on it. Will move the gatorskins to my CAAD 4 when the gp4000 tires I have ordered come in.

Garmin VIRB

$150 at LeftLane Sports was too good a deal to pass up. I've been wanting a cam for awhile, and seemed like a good combo since I already have a 510.

I'm not up to speed on action cameras. Is there some advantage to having the VIRB/Edge 510 combo that you don't get with say a GoPro/Edge 510?

The Virb can be remotely controlled by a Garmin headunit. So you can change settings/recording/etc, without needing access to the camera. I believe the software will automatically sync your GPS/cadence/HRM with the video and do an overlay. There's software to do the same with a GoPro, but my impression is that its not as seamless.

gsa103, thats a fantastic price for the Virb, but it just too bad they are not doing 1080p @ 120fps, especially since the specs on the GoPro Hero 4 were leaked and it can do 4K, 2.7K and do 1080 @ 120.
Anyway, here is my most recent and probably last purchase for a bit:

Praxis Forged compact chainrings.

I have those rings... not installed yet though.

as for VIRB.. it's been out for awhile already and the Hero4 is not released yet.. so no surprise about the spec difference.

Let me know what you think about the rings, what intrigued me was that they are forged rather than cut. Should make the life much longer than my current Red chainrings.

Hero4 should be next week or the following at the latest, with immediate availability. Virb was released a year ago. Hero3 was before the Virb and it does 1080 @ 60 fps. I really want to like the Virb, but it just isn't really an upgrade other than the fact I could control it directly from my Edge 800. Unhappily for me, I have three Contours (2 GPS and 1 Contour+) and I love both the Virb and Contour form factor over the GoPro, but it did release with "dated" specs.

But the price gsa103 paid for it was well worth it. At retail, not so much.

@dherzfeld, I had the TS-2 and sold it to buy the TS-2.2 over a year ago, the Park stand is one of the best tool investment I have ever made.

Praxis rings are great. On my bikes, I like them better than the Red rings they replaced. Better shifting. Shimano rings are the only others that are forged, afaik.

You might want to check those shifters when they arrive, the tricolor STIs started on the 8 speed version, the 7 speed 6400 had DT shifters.

Thanks for the input, I already knew that the Shimano rings were forged, but they cost even more than the Praxis in a set, plus they now want everyone to go to the 4 bolt asymmetrical BCD. Of course Cannondale in it's infinite wisdom is in love with FSA so they supply crappy FSA rings with almost everything road, unless you get an SiSl with the Spider rings. So the Praxis was my best option. Will likely move my Red rings to my daughter's Synapse since she is still on the FSA rings. The Red are much better shifting than the FSA.

waiting for a BB from THM Claviculas for the install.. probably mid/late october.

I have the contour+2 and virb elite.. got the contour when they where " restructuring" for a song.. and the virb elite for 199 from competitive cyclist during their TDF daily sale. No doubt the GoPro leads the market and generally has the best specs, just can't stand he form factor. Besides getting a Hero4 will make me buy a 4K Samsung curved Panel.. could get expensive.

Full Campy Chorus 11 speed groupset from Velomine. Going to upgrade my Merlin and move the 10 speed Campy stuff to a Colnago C50 frame I just picked up in a trade.

I want to add some color to the titanium with new bar tape. Any suggestions?
