Dura Ace 7800 SL
Idea taken from post #53 https://www.bikeforums.net/road-cycling/528639-sram-red-lighter-cheaper.html
If Shimano were to re-release Dura Ace 7800 with more titanium, a 7800 carbon crank (that is just as stiff as the regular 7800 crank) and better shifters (basically the 7900 shifters) at a price between the new ultegra and the new 7900 would you get this groupset?
Would this basically be the best group ever made?
Discuss...

The cynicism in this place is why I ride SRAM.
Everyone will be making the leap after this summer.

Didn't you just describe buying a 7800 groupset, but swapping out the shifters for 7900?
And the last time Shimano attempted a carbon crank -- it cost over $1k.

I have to agree that Chorus 11 or some Record/Chorus mix would be a better deal. Next year there will be an even cheaper Athena 11.
Shimano really fouled up their shifter redesign, by reducing function. The brake/shift lever can now only shift 2-cogs per shift instead of 3. Not a big deal for those using a 53/39 but it is for those using a 50/34. They also failed in the weight department. Still the heaviest of all brake/shift levers. From all reports, the reach to the brake hoods is also longer. It was already the longest of the big 3. More reach is not a step in the right direction.
Shimano chains don't last nearly as long as Campy either.
