Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Some pics from Ellijay, GA vacation. *Disclaimer* - this was from a walk. I just wish I had my bike with me.

Ooo, I love this thread! And now I have a couple to contribute. Just humble Georgia country roads.

Not awe inspiring, but good riding.

Almost all the back-lane roads are like this (and there are a lot of them in all this farm country). They all take two-way traffic, but the cars are a lot smaller here. I can pass with a few inches to spare but if two cars want to pass one has to pull over off the road. Luckily drivers are very considerate here.

Sucks, FLickr doesn't allow you to link directly to forums anymore...Started this a couple months back. I guess an attemtp to force people to visit the site? I have lots of pics there that can no longer be linked

Flickr makes it EASIER to link photos in this forum.
Look!

photo page --> share this --> grab HTML/BB Code.
Get the BB code for the photo size you like (make sure you click BBcode)
paste in "go advanced"
Looks like this

Thanks, maybe they changed it from a month ago . I also read the forum where many were complaining that they could not link the photos and couldn't figure out how. Couldn't find an answer so may they changed it. I did try grab the link method, didn't work back then.

Hmm, maybe I was doing it wrong I'm not sure but either way, Thanks for the info!

Ahh cool!

Couple pic looking down on GRR that probably not many riders have. Pictures that were sent to me by Hillbasher on his trip to the ski lifts.

You're probably most definitely right then. I could never get the 2 of them sorted out even when I lived out there: I always just thought of them as "The roads that got me to Mt Baldy Village and the subsequent climb/torture-fest to the ski lifts". I think I boiled my brains enough on the climb from the village to the lifts to have mixed-up GMR and GRR.

I'm not sure if that pic is from the lower or upper portion of GMR -- though I'd be willing to bet I'd recognize it in a heartbeat if I were ever to ride it again.

edit: and that pic was taken by bf member "The Fixer" -- though I think he's changed his username since.

Yeah, I'd venture to guess it's awfully close to the same spot, perhaps slightly different angle though. See my last edit to my previous post though -- alas, I can't take proper credit for that pic.

Agreed.

All that I can say is that I wish I made it out here earlier. No biggie though -- I'll just enjoy the heck out of it from here on out.
