Let me set it up. I commuted in this morning on my P3. I was riding in the aero position and waved to several little groups of roadies and NONE of them waved back. SNOBS!
So then I'm thinking "I wonder if they think I'm a triathlete?"
Then I had other thoughts like "Hmmm I'm not a triathlete. But I'm not a roadie either. But I'm not your typical long distance rider either. Hmmm....what am I?"
I'm not your typical roadie because I wave at triathletes. I ride steel frames, wear wool, wear reflective gear and think going around in circles for 50 mins is boring and ...never mind. I shun most USCF racing because I can't stand the roadie testosterone attitude. Plus I just don't have the FT muscle fiber to contend for the sprint.
I'm not your typical brevet (long distance) rider because I embrace technology and ride a P3, a Powertap and even race wheels from time to time in my brevet events.. No handlebar bags, panniers or dyno hub lighting systems for me. I'm not your typical brevet rider because I race them (with others) even though brevets are not races--anymore that is (PBP started as a race many many years ago)
I'm not triathlete because I hate swimming. I go to the beach to check out the babes and let my 4 yr old play in the surf. I do love running though. My bike looks like a x-mas tree with all the reflective stuff on it. Oh and I actually clean my bike after every ride.
I guess I just love being on my bike and riding long.
