Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cell Phones - weight

I am currently in the market for a new cell phone as mine is almost broken completely. Does anyone know where whats the lightest cell phones on the market? Is there a weight chart out there?

Not sure what the weights are, but I would imagine you could find that out fairly easily, it's probably listed in the specs of the phone. But really what difference does it make? You aren't going to be racing with one, and it's not like phones are like they were back in the late 80's, when they were the size of toasters.

Sprint and Verizon list them in the specs but you have to go to each phone individually.

This was important when the Blackberrys, I think the 7500 or 7800s, were like bricks but now it looks like they're all around 4 ounces.

Replying only to things we care about would take the fun out of the internet.

for me, a rugged phone far outweighs (ha!) the benefits of a light phone. something i can shove in my saddle bag or jersey pocket without worrying about scratches or damage are more important that a feitherweight, fragile phone.

Nokia 8200 at 79g is the lightest I know of. They have not been made for a while but can still be found used. No camera/GPS/GameBoy/personal massager. It's just a reliable phone. Get a prepaid T-Mobile SIM and you are good to go.

There's a small samsung that has a camera that is almost as light, and is more current.

The weight of a cell phone will not hold you back in any way.

Standard weight of U.S. Quarter is 5.6 grams. Carry several of those, in case you get an aswering machine, or have ventured into long distance, and that weight adds up.

^ Duct tape it to the seatpost of your new Canondale, and you'll be UCI legal.
