I had no probs with them except i seem to recall som weird size limit (250kb?) for any single file. Other than that it's pretty easy to get a site up.

The only time I will ride on the Parramatta road is on early Sunday Morning,any other time is plain suicidal.I am not sure of which direction you want to head to,but generally speaking, try to find the secondary roads that usually run along the railway line along the direction parallel to the Parramatta road.There will still be fair amount of traffic but much less stressful situation afterall.

I was thinking of coming from Bathurst, down the F4, then from then on I was buggered because I agree with you about the suicidal bit. I take it those minor streets you talk about are windy narrow affairs that would slow things down heaps? Better than ending up a bonet ornament I guess. From the city to Rose bay wouldn't be to bad though. Was going to spend a couple of days then ride back again. Going up the mountains would sure test me out. ;)

I can't find any place locally that stocks the expensive lenses. And I've never had any need for an extender. :p


You must mean the 20-35. I've got 3 or 4 of the Sigma 2.8 lenses, and they treat me well. Also a Tokina 2.8. I just need at least a 17mm wide. Good to know aftermarket still compares well to Canon.

Anmy difference between brake cables and deraileur cables? Do you have outers as well?

We did a number of tests at varying apetures and focal lengths. Center sharpness was pretty much indistinguishable for both lenses, but the Canon had noticably softer edges. The Canon 20-35L is supposed to be a very well regarded lens. Mitigating factor was that the lens was old and previously owned by a pro, but I wouldn't expect that to result in something like loss of edge sharpness.

Difference? Yeah, try using a derailleur cable on your brakes... :D I've only got the inner wires, no housing. I have have some derailleur cables too, gotta check tomorrow.

So you rekon there's any difference between one wire to the next? I would have thought the outer would be where the difference would lie?

I think it's 1.1mm compared to 2mm. Either way, shift cables are too light for braking. And the housings are different as well. Shift housing has longitudinally placed reinforcement for zero compression, brake housing has coiled reinforcement for better brake feel. I'd like to hear Climbo's comments on the shift cables he bought, as they're supposed to be some top stuff.

Ok guys, a bike related question. Skinny tire question, even. I just saw an Avanti with flat bars, skinny tires, and the Shimano Nexus 8 speed rear hub. I'm not sure why I like it, but I do. Does anyone know anything about this bike? It was only $900, which seems a pretty fair price. Opinions welcome.

If anyone is looking to build or upgrade an older MTB, I've got a complete bike in bits that I'm parting out. Very low k's on all of it. XT 8 speed shifters and rear derailleur, LX front, Avid SD 3 brakes, Avid SD 5 levers, XTR seat pillar, XT cranks, and some other bits like an inexpensive suspension fork and an entry level set of wheels with disc hubs. Oh, and a very nice custom frame - Kinesis tubing. I'll have it on ebay soon, but if anything interests any of you guys, PM or email me. There's a bunch of other stuff floating around that's got to go too, I'll let you know when I dig it up.
