For a short while The outward journey sorts out the riders who aren't as fit. If the pace is reasonably steady then a strong C grader should be able to last until the second climb of Blood, at which point their legs and their brain will have a formidable battle. The legs usually win by creating such large doses of lactic acid that the ego has to submit

Hey fellas another quick noob question. Getting my lady into the bikes cause she's got bad knees (it helped my dodgy knee so worth a go for her). The go with girls daks is anatomical:

in the olden days the chamois in all cycle shorts had a bewdiful seam down the middle. Never bothered us guys, so no-one that's the way shorts were built for nearly a century. Then cycling became popular with the ladies in the early 90's and they started complaining about certain sensitivities. So the companies that cared to listen stiched the chamois in a way that eliminated the stitching down the centreline. Voila, happy female riders.

The other difference is the cut. Ladies hips are (generally) much wider than mens, so the cut has some more 'belly' in the thigh area than mens daks. It's a feature that can be useful for overweight guys who have a big arse and thighs but skinny knees and lower legs.

Oh yeah, make sure you get her set up on the bike properly. Girls (and yes I'm generalising) have this habit of wanting to sit lower than they should which puts more strain on their knees.
