Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes: a few

RTA website blurb:

Bicycles
The New South Wales Government is committed to providing transport alternatives that:

Make it easier and more convenient for people to get to places where they want to go
Reduce the rate at which the demand for car travel increases in future, thereby helping to improve air quality
For bicycles to achieve the above goals, the Government has developed Action for Bikes - BikePlan 2010.
Action for Bikes - BikePlan 2010 describes a 4-point action plan for bicycles in NSW

Improving the bike network
Making it safer to cycle
Improving personal and environmental health
Raising community awareness

My personal oppinion is that all new roads and where possible road upgrades (windsor road is a good example) should have provision for cycleways. It cant cost them that much more and in a lot of ways they kill 2 birds with one stone. a little bit of foresight would go a long way.

This doesnt apply just to your lycra clad road junkie, but better cycling facilities will futher improve kids saftey and also the safety of commuters, as the article states. I know im preaching to the converted here, but its a point that needs to be made. I would cycle to work if there wasnt a suicidal merge lane that had to be negotiated.....

Whether the budget of 15 mil is too low is not really the issue. The issue is that what little funding was there has now been reduced and shows a further lack of interest from the govt in promoting cycling initiatives. Hence more lobbying will have to occur from various interest groups in order to get funding levels back to where they previously were, even though that was too low. Its probably put cycleway and other cycling initiative development back 10 years in this state.

After 3 hard weeks of work and no bike riding...working from home today, extended lunch to go for a quick blast round the peninusla, sun is shining, whisper of a breeze...Life is good again

Anyone around this weekend?

I'd like to see a survivor series there !

I thought it would be like Trainspotting, and was going to watch it with my oldest daughter. Glad she went to sleep before it came on. They talk funny.

Bob Coyle? Yeah, God was a trip, but one of Bob's mates recognized him, even as a fly in the last part, didn't they?

That's it. Bob Coyle.

Strange movie. Saw "The Cook The thief his Wife and her Lover" a few weeks prior on Showtime Greats. Another brain-bender.

It might be enough build a couple of short cycleways here and there, but it isn't going to scratch the surface is it? I bet they spend millions on stupid (ie. non-infrastructure) items like the annual Cycle Sydney ride
Cycle Sydney is run my Bicycle NSW https://www.bicyclensw.org.au/ and is self funded.

Just be careful that what you wish for is what you really want. It is likely that ANY bikepath built in smog city will be a shared path. That means that the thought police can nab you for cruising at more than 30kmh.

The alternative is to return to the arterial roads with a lesser population of bikes: ie. less tolerance from drivers

If anyone needs an excuse to buy stick-books, then here's one straight from Hugh Heffner. US Playboy has a 7-page interview with Lance in this month's edition. I dunno if it's being included in the Aussie variant tho.
