Practice, hmmm ....

I was riding my Tarmac today and minding my own business. Suddenly I hear "Jersey under your bibs" in rather command tone. So I look around and see that fella with shaved legs, in skinsuit and on a nice Time bike. So I ask him why? He says it "practice". Well if it is custom or some UCI rule then I do not really give a flying ... about it. If it has some REAL reason then I'd like to know about it.

When I first got bibs I was actually wearing jersey on top of those but pretty soon discovered what happens when the nature calls on a long ride and you urgently have to remove that jersey and it clings to a sweaty skin like crazy.. So those are my "practical reasons" for wearing it this way. As for reaching into back pockets ... Well, my keys, wallet and phone are in a tiny fanny pack so I do not really need those pockets. Almost forgot, I do not shave my legs either.

You wear your jersey under your bibs...?

Guy's a knob for making a disparaging comment to a stranger. If it works for you, go for it. But no one else does it that way, so it is going to look funny to some people. Most won't be rude enough to make comments.

He was just trying to save you from the ridicule that you would receive out on the road and here at BF for wearing your bibs outside your main jersey, if I'm understanding correctly that's what you do. :)

Is this you?

you can still pull the bibs down enough to go the bathroom, no reason to take your shorts off.

Anyways, can anyone tell me what are the reasons for wearing it one way or the other rather then "everybody else does that" ?

That's really weird.

Like wearing your underwear on the outside of your jeans.

I do not use back pockets. See my original post. And cyclists in their clothes look stupid anyways.

That should be done before your ride.

Flatballer 09-07-09 03:53 PM

To pee: roll up one leg, whip it out.

it's tough, I know.

And personally, I do it so that a)I can get to my pockets, b) the sponsors that paid good money to have their info on my jersey can actually be seen, c)you don't look like an idiot, and d) you don't look like an idiot.

Maybe so. But you look stupider wearing your clothes backwards. Sorry.

Thats gotta be uncomfortable. Why wear bibs in the first place if you are adding something around your waist anyways?

Also, how long of a ride are you doing to have to do a #2? Thats something that should be taken care of before you set out.

Sometimes it lasts all day. I eat before the ride so few hrs later nature make it's call

I do not have sponsors, I ride because I like it.

Cycling shorts/bibs IS underwear anyways and it looks like one. Jersey does not help in hiding it ;)
